Re: Books!

I just got a free book from school, and I like the series. it's called Maximum Ride. it's about the kids who wore ripped apart in a laboratory, and have special powers, and all are different, but all of them have gigantic wings.

I also just finished an old Artemis Fowl book,"the Opal Deception".

Re: Books!

That book was great.

Re: Books!

Meh, I think Artemis Fowl took a nosedive after Book 3 and never recovered.

Re: Books!

Same.I loved the first few though.

Re: Books!

I finished reading The Supernaturalists by Eoin Colfer and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked the whole feel of that futuristic town. I have been noticing whenever an orphanage is in a book or film, it usually is a place where children are harassed. I think this book would have an awesome film adaptation though, if any major director decides to make it.

I am now reading The Subtle Knife, and it is really good so far. It's funny whenever I bring a His Dark Materials book to school, some kids freak out and says "OMG! THey kill God iN tHat book! Stop ReAding it!" But that's what I get for going to a catholic school.

Re: Books!

The Supernaturalist, was a great book, I think an adaptation, would be great, if made right.

Re: Books!

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien.
Great books, some times hard to understand but once you get stuck in, saucesome.

Boy Soldier by Andy McNab.
Nice action scenes, quite well explained also.

Epic by Conor Kostick.
Epic.

Emperor: The Gods of War by Con Iggulden.
EXTREMELY HARD to understand for a casual reader. It had strange references and.... let's just say, different words.

High five! You too VN.

My Facebook list of favorite books:

I Am America (And So Can You)!, America (The Book), Dreams From My Father, Watchmen, Artemis Fowl, Jurassic Park, Lost World, State of Fear, Prey, 1984, All Quiet On The Western Front, Fahrenheit 451, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Screwtape Letters

Obviously not everything I've enjoyed, or even the best books I've read, but the ones that either
A) I read recently
B) Were memorable

All Quiet on the Western Front was actually life changing for me. When I was younger I had wanted to join the military, not really sure why, I guess because of the whole "war will automatically make you a good person" bile thrown around . In fifth grade we had to do a book report on a historical fiction novel and I was compelled to read it because of the claim of "Greatest War Novel Ever Written" on the front. I was expecting some idiotic glorification of war, but walked out a semi-pacifist.

Also, I recommend everybody to click that link I posted earlier. It's grrrrr-eat!

Re: Books!

Dreams From My Father was quite good I thought. It was written in 1995, so there's a nice honesty about it. I doubt he would have written about doing drugs in high school later in his career.

Re: Books!

I'm part way through book three (Blood of the Fold) of the  Sword of Truth series. I got interested when I watched a couple episodes of Legend of the Seeker on TV and found out it was based on a book, got the book and stopped watching the show cause the books are so much better (and the show changes too much for me to want to watch it right now).

Trains at Work

It's sorta like the "For Dummies" series. It's really out of date because it references things such as the "Vista-Dome" car and the railroad car maker "Pullman". For those of you familiar with traveling by train in the USA and Canada, Dome cars are not used anymore. (With the exception of the Canadian) Plus, "Pullman" went out of business in the 1980's. The actual copyright date is 1947!
