Re: New emoticons.

I'm guessing this could have something to do with the forum displaying emoticons differently than other images, but I noticed that the old ones sit on the text baseline, while the new ones sit below it. mini/smile http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/UberSocks/1-2.gif

Re: New emoticons.

thats cause the new ones are raw image files. I'm sure sean can cropp them. right sean?

Re: New emoticons.

Actually MM I think it has more to do with the CSS for the forums, since the new ones are the same basic size as the old ones. The emotes have a class called 'smilie', which has rules that removes any padding or margin. I suspect basic images have some margin or padding by default (although I've yet to find it on the stylesheet).

Re: New emoticons.

I'm sorry Sean, but I don't like these new ones. They just don't beat Blunty's. Blunty's have perfect color, perfect shape, and are cute to boot. Yours seem squarish, are too orange, and aren't exaggerated enough. Oh, that's another thing I like about some of Blunty's emotes; they're over exaggerated, like this one mini/bigsmile . Plus, these smilies bring back memories of BF, back in the good old days, back when Thick As A Brick wasn't 'Round Like A Brick (pun intended).

I think they should all be kept, but just the best displayed for quick reply.

Re: New emoticons.

I like the new versions better, but I agree that they could be made a little more rounded and exaggerated, resulting in something similar to the originals.  Here's my attempt at a new version of the mini/bigsmile smiley: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/smeagol/Movies/smileyoutline.gif  I rounded the head up top, shortened the stud another pixel, and made the smile resemble the original one, then outlined the whole thing in black rather than dark yellow, adding to the cartoon feel.  It didn't look right to me with a black outline on the bottom, so I kept that yellow.  I think something like this could be a good compromise between the new and the old.

Re: New emoticons.

That looks fantastic Smeagol! Although perhaps a tad lighter or more towards the yellow on the spectrum?

Just a thought, is there any chance of having the original blank head once we've got one we like so people can try making their own? It's a bit of a pain trying to recreate it (I speak from experience).

Re: New emoticons.

Sméagol, I don't like the lack of a black line at the bottom of the head. I agree it would look weird if added to the head how it is now, but perhaps if the neck were made slightly thinner or rounded it would work. Something like this: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/robo-warrior/misc/smiley.gif Then again, that does look nearly identical to the original smiley with an improved hue, which may not be what we want.

Nick and Smeagol, those are brilliant. They look cartonn-ey with the black line but better than the old ones. I say we use those.
