Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

You know I am liking the looks of this contest I do not own any mega blocks but I can get some old ones from my grandparents. But I also have a question: Does every single item in the video have to be mega block or could some be lego?]

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

This looks like an awesome contest. Unfortunately though, we don't own many MEGA BLOKS (Just one lone plate mini/sad ), but this may require some extra cash being spent :^) .

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

Bought a Halo set. Good to know the quality of the pieces have improved since the last time I bought Mega Bloks (around 9 years ago). The tires are a bit iffy, and I dread stickers. Though, I dread stickers in pretty much every toy. mini/tongue

I started animating. The figures are extremely hard to work with. I'm trying to find ways to keep the UNSC marine onto the baseplate without tipping over. The majority of my entry should be mongoose-driving, so hopefully I won't have to put up with a lot of that type of animation.

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

I am curious though, Brad, as to why the allowed countries are so limited?

This is really a matter of international contest laws, which are so complicated I don't even want to talk about them. However we've felt strong demand from some countries for this contest -- Australia being one of them -- so we're definitely keeping that in mind for our next competition. Sorry about that!

You can use basic LEGO items (bricks, baseplates, etc.) as long as there's no clear LEGO branding. Obviously you can't use LEGO figs or anything obviously LEGO.

This is the downside of having fully articulated figures -- since the range of movement is higher it can be difficult to move them frame by frame. You should try using Blu-Tack or something similar to stabilize the movement.

Thanks for everyone's comments! I'll be checking here a few times a day so please feel free to leave messages!

Second thought, despite the extremely prestigious prizes, I'll pass on this.  I don't want to bother getting a bunch of Mega-Bloks just a make an entry I'm only in it for the prizes.

Plus, Mega-Bloks just don't appeal to me at all.

Blame Sean. He got Smeagol interested in the new show, Friendship is Magic, and he started the avatar trend which got most of us into it.

I changed mine, though I may change it back, hehe.

I know a lot of people who are into it, which I find odd since they're people I wouldn't have imagined would find it interesting. Is the show really funny or something?

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

It's just great. It gets better every episode. Though I don't want to follow the trend with my avatar. I'm doing better without for now.
I saw that only some countries can enter, btw. Since I live in Italy I wouldn't be able to enter anyway.

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

It's well-written, and the art style is nice. There's references to pop culture in it. You can see some inspiration from John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy) at parts. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHy3ZhY9VKs

Created by Lauren Faust, who worked on Power Puff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

It's just overall a good cartoon. mini/tongue

Oh, I actually like PPG and Foster's, so maybe I should check it out! (Never liked R&S though)

Muahahahahaha.

But yes, it is actually a very decent show - I'm an avid hater of all the older MLP cartoons and such, so I was skeptical to say the least when mates at Uni were telling me to check it out. Glad I did though.

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

Seems like a marketing ploy to get people to get out buy some more Mega Bloks, and in the mean time get some semi-free advertisment. Quite clever.

Re: Mega Bloks Halo Toymation Video Contest [CLOSED]

That's what pretty much every competition run by any company is though, including the official Lego ones. Doesn't make it a bad thing.

Pretty much this. mini/yes

Not to get too pedantic, but do you have an example of something that might be "obviously LEGO?"
Also, kudos to you, Mega Bloks, for both the well-organized contest and the class you've displayed here. Cheers! mini/smile

EDIT: The rules seem to state that copyrighted elements are not allowed. Is there room for flexibility here, i.e. using sound effects and voicing from the games?

Didn't say it was. In fact I was complimenting it.
