How do you connect your camera to the computer? I've been trying to connect my 500D with a Mini-USB to USB cable but the animation program isn't recognizing the camera.

I think your animation program may be the problem. I use dragon and have no problem using the USB port.

Hey bud it looks great. Can't wait to see it.
When do you expect to have it done?

So what is your current setup for camera/equipment/software?

Well, I've used a lot of setups:

1) Software: iStopMotion (home) with Panasonic nv-gs320 (camcorder). Limited to 640 x 360. Made almost all animation entries with that one. Shot about 75% of Operation Blue Dragon with that. Great camera, just crappy with large red surfaces.
2) Software: Helium Frog (bootcamp on my mac) with LQCP9000. The logitech is very easy to use in dolly shots. Used this for about 3 scenes in Operation Blue Dragon. Shot with Helium Frog, but reimported the images to iStopMotion.
3) Software: DragonFrame with Canon EOS 1000d, 29mm, 50mm and 35-70mm old manual m42 lenses with lens adapter. Shooting the rest of Operation Blue Dragon with that. Dragonframe really sets the standard for me. It costs a lot but it really is lovely!

Using a Samson CU01 for voice recording...

Other than that:
- Audacity.
- Gimp.
- iMovie.

That's basically it!

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

How much is dragonframe anyway? Also seems like there may be some quality jumps throughout the video as a result of all the different set ups.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

To buy it new its $295, but if your upgrading from Dragon Stop Motion its only $95.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

What is the difference between dragon stop motion and dragon frame?

Yes, obviously, quality differences will be visible! However, I don't think the film will suffer from this. The main quality jumps will not be caused by the different camera's but more by different frame rates: I started out at 15 FPS, but along the way switched to 24 FPS. So about 15% of the film is shot in 15 FPS.

Just let me finish the film first... that's going to take long enough!

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

WOW I am extremely impressed with your FANTASTIC set designs!! What i think you should do is turn this into a big SERIES. Like Red vs Blue. I cannot wait for this to come out!

I have awesome sauce in my veins! Which i sprinkle on each of my videos to give it an extra dose of aweomseness!

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

... and yet another update.

During the holidays I took a break from this project, but I have picked it up again the last few weeks. I reckon that about 90% of the animation has been shot. I still have to animate about 13 scenes for which i will have to build 2 rather large sets. After that the following is still on my ToDo list:
- Video Postprocessing (a lot of it!!!). Have to to some masking, but mainly a lot of GiMP drawing and stuff.
- Audio Postprocessing. I have done a first sweep of all the lines I got, normalizing the audio files, so they are all equal in volume. But after that I still have a lot of post processing to do in the form of "helmetizing" (making it sound from the inside of a helmet), and some "radio-izing" (making it sound like coming from a low quality radio transmission). I already recorded some special effect sounds, but probably have to record some more.
- Soundtrack. Haven't really thought of that yet, but I have to find someone who is willing the write and record a convincing soundtrack for this film... for free... (no budget there). I'll probably create a soundtrack-less version of the film to show to potential composers...
- Editting. And then I still have to edit the whole thing together....

In case anybody is interested: the project folder on my mac is currently 36 Gb large. That includes the animation, lines, images, script, basically everything.

Keep you guys posted!

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I can't wait. I saw the trailer and it looks VERY COOL. mini/smile

The photos look awesome, too. I love how the colors of the LEGO rock differ while touching; it makes it look realistic. I'm assuming the "astronaut-like" costumes are those from the space LEGO sets from the 1990s, right?

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?
