That's awesome. Where do you get all those grey pieces?

I haven't animated anything in over 3 months. I am sorry about that, but I have been working on my magnum opus: Ghost Cat: Port of Call New Orleans

Blue League Briefing Room. Shot was slightly different (other seating arrangements, "scared face" isn't visible in the actual shot of course) and have to make another set to shoot from the viewpoint of the commander doing the presentation. I'll let you guys take a guess at what the objects left and right of the commander are...

Where did you get the guy at the top talking where did you get his head?

Looks like the face is from the "viking" from the collectable series 4.

Correct!

Ordered a load of these from bricklink, and a local dutch supplier called "www.lossestenen.nl".

Isn't this how they do it in the big Disney / Pixar productions? Not suggesting that I'm comparing myself to these guys, but the it's the same principle, isn't it?

Dialog is recorded before animation. Sound effects and anything that needs tweaking will be put in afterward.

OK, my mistake. I honestly thought it was done the other way around...

@boardron
I personally think you should switch out the guy with a backward sided face to a one sided face turning forward. you only see the back of the heads, and then it seems a bit confusing with one of the faces also turning backwards mini/tongue

That's not a frame from his film. That's just a picture of his set. He'll probably have all the shots taken seeing only the front of those minfigs. (He's probably going to put a wall behind them for those shots.)

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Ok, just a short update to let you guys know I'm still working on this.

Just hit the 50% mark on the animation progess. So although it is slow, I will get there in the end.

Been working on some postproduction as well, drawing laser blasts into the footage using gimp. At one point there's a big battle scene where I drew 25 blasts over a period of 5 seconds footage... using Gimp. That took about 5 minutes per blast, so you guys do the math...

Another nice shot that I finished is a "bricksplosion": an "object" explodes into 4 big pieces. Those big pieces go flying through the air and all exploded outward of the impact point. How I did that was the following:
- first I shot footage of each opf the pieces flying through the air seperately. Had to remove the rigs for each of these shots of course.
- After that, I merged/masked/copy-pasted all of these shots together, to get a single explosion.
I hope you guys understand what I mean. Anyway, it took me 3 hours in total (for 3 seconds of film) but turned out pretty good.

On  I side note: I might even switch to another camera for this, as I recently bought a DSLR with some manual lenses. Shooting with that is really fun! Now I just have to sell some other stuff inb order to finance my copy of Dragon. If your shooting with (a supported) DSLR, Dragon really is a must! It is great software, but at a price!

Well, that's it for now. Keep you guys posted in another month or so...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

This is probably going to be a great hit when it comes out, you know.

Remember the last time someone made a big 24 FPS movie?

And scifi adventures are cool. mini/smile

It's pretty amazing that your spending so much time on effects.

Once I spent nine hours on special effects for a short, then to realize the footage I shot was messed up. xD

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Sounds like it's going to be good.

I see one problem with masking each piece individually: The shadows might get messed up.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Of course I do. I watched it the other day. Egyptian Holiday by MobileDeli. Also, I think soonish some of my films will be switched to 24 fps and I have 1 or 2 big films planned!

I'm flattered that you guys are comparing me with him, but I'm afraid I won't be able to live up to those expectations. Currently I'm striving for completion, not perfection! But I'll do the best I can and we'll see...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Okay, the shooting of the animation is coming along nicely. And I've been doing some post production as well, mainly masking and drawing in laser shots and stuff... all in Gimp. I've bit the bullet and invested in a copy of DragonFrame (ouch, that definitely hurt!). However, it seems to pay off. I have about 20% footage left to shoot, almost all parts with voice acting. I've decided to switch strategies and will ask for the voice files first, so If placed a casting call in the audio section. If your interested, please take a look:

http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/to … ue-dragon/

I've even invested in hardware to do sound effects: there's a youtube tutorial on how to make star wars like blaster sounds using a ... slinky. So I probably visited every toy shop in town, and finally found one! And I must say, that's really fun to use!

Anyway, that's it for now...

Well, currently the thing holding back further production is getting voice actors.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Just another update. I took a break from this project to do an animation challenge and I had to wait for some essential voice actors. Well, the animation challenge is over and the lines have been received, so now I'm back in business.

I still have to shoot about 20% but I'm getting there. Just to give you guys something to look at: an image of the Red Faction Control Room. Enjoy!

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

How do you connect your camera to the computer? I've been trying to connect my 500D with a Mini-USB to USB cable but the animation program isn't recognizing the camera.

I think your animation program may be the problem. I use dragon and have no problem using the USB port.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

EDIT: You're right, it is compatible in Animator DV, but not DV Simple+.
Do you happen to know a free software compatible with DSLR cameras?
