Re: Books!

I just finished reading the seventh Harry Potter for the second time, and that is probably one of my most favorite books. The story is so ingenious, and answers every single question you had from the sixth book. The fourth and sixth of those books are also my favs of the series. I have some others, but I can't name them all right now. Still, one trilogy I want to mention is The Bartimaeus Trilogy, the second one of those books is probably my favorite, the third one was absolutely terrible in my opinion, it was really a stupid ending for the trilogy.
I started reading The Hobbit in the library yesterday. It looks great, I'm thinking of buying it today. mini/smile

Anybody who says "meh" or "I'm not a reader" should start reading more, period. mini/tongue

Re: Books!

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey is an awesome book.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is great; I really should get around to watching the film sometime.
The Hitchhikers Guide series.
Flowers for Algernon- very thought provoking (irony not intended).
Of Mice and Men is excellent.
Catch 22 is a must read.

Re: Books!

Big Sur

I was very much blown away by this; as much as I like Kerouac's earlier work, this has more weight and maturity to it; it's more focused. The ending is beautiful.

Into the Wild

I really enjoy good nonfiction writing, and this is quite good. It's a light read as well; I started it yesterday evening and finished it this morning.

I'm reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides right now which I like a lot; for college, my summer reading is Kafka's The Metamorphosis and On Natural Selection by Charles Darwin.

Re: Books!

The Giver It was rather..........communistic.

Re: Books!

Just finished A Separate Peace. Upon starting the book I felt it was a bit slow, and the events in it really didn't seem monumental or important. By the end the characters are all built very well, and you really see how the every bit of the story ties together, and is interwoven with the bigger picture; the effect of the WW2 on civilians as well as soldiers. It ends being deeply emotional. Good book.

Re: Books!

Edlef Köppen - Heeresbericht (Higher Command)
A book about WW1 first published in 1930, burned by the nazis and much better than "Im Westen nichts neues" (All Quiet on the Western Front) from Erich Maria Remarque. Köppen mixed the story of a young german soldier fighting on each front with original documents like orders of the emporer and articles from the newspaper. the contrastive use shows the sick difference between reality and propaganda/orders. no sleep. no sleep.

Re: Books!

I just finished Hell's Horizon by D.B. Shan(Darren Shan's pseudonym)

It was rather good, kindof going on a weirder course than some of his books, and that's saying something.

Re: Books!

I'm going to start reading Batman:Arkham Asylum again. http://prettythings.pullbot.com/artworks/62659/24285_4_002_medium.jpg
I read of all of my Robert Rodriguez book, then Watchmen and then i kinda did other things. So now i am getting back to it. It's VERY gritty. I do get in to a weird state though when i read scripts or books. I'm not really seeing the book, i start seeing whats happening. Like a movie in my head. My imagination i guess.
