Are you like the only woman on BIM?
There's Dew_Films, and probably many others. Just not many are very active.

Are there any Irish brickfilmers with adult voices? I'd quite like an Irish accent for the character "Rick Ferniman" on my casting call thread. If anyone knows of someone, I'd like to PM them. ![]()
It would be great to have more women making films here. I think we'd get more diversity creatively in the stories being told, that way. I know all too well that the AFOL community and filmmaking are somewhat male-centric, so I think that's why the intersection of the two is even more so.
It's funny, because if you were going by the profiles, you'd think that the majority were women. When I saw your's first, I thought that Smeagol survived mount doom, and is now an attractive woman called Philip ![]()

I think film-making in general has a reputation for being male-centric. I suppose this could be partially due to sexism within the industry, but it's interesting to note that in Brickfilming, where such issues are non-existent (I can't think of a single person here who wouldn't want more female Brickfilmers) the ratio is even more skewed. Coming to think of it, I wonder if I'd have ever gotten into Brickfilming if I happened to be female. Though, the crew I worked with on a live-action project had a pretty even male-female split (if anything, there were more girls than guys) so I suppose it depends.
As it stands, I can list all of the female Brickfilmers I know of more or less on one hand. It's sad, I would really like to see more female Brickfilmers (not to mention, a wider a variety of female VAs), but I can't think of any way to improve the number of female Brickfilmers.

Sillypenta is Irish. Also, there are probably people around here who can do a suitable accent even if they aren't Irish themselves (I myself can do a passable Irish accent, even though I've never been there--although it probably won't be 100% accurate, and may not be what you're looking for).
When you think of it, the majority of people on YouTube are probably men. It's quite strange when you think of it, and there doesn't seem to be any explanation!
Happy Birthday to Melissa Schneider, character on "Holding our Own".
In 2015, she turns 22 years old!

I'd say I'm your best bet. Feel free to PM.
I was wondering if anyone knows whether Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12 works on Windows 8.1?
I have to say, I find it incredibly depressing that just 18 of the 38 brickfilms on the first page of Releases aren't based on licensed themes of some sort.
I love comic book heroes and some of these brickfilms are really great, but the lack of originality kills me.

Crazier still, to me, is the problem that a lot of the people who post in releases only post their films, don't post anywhere else on the site, and don't even reply to comments. I'm not sure what to do about this because these seem like people just trying to cash in their chance for a few extra views. And in most cases, the films by people who do this aren't any good.

I don't necessarily think all presold-IP brickfilms represent a lack of originality. 80% do (there are so many "Lego Spider-man fight" and "Lego Star Wars lightsaber mission duel battle" brickfilms that aren't original at all) but the process of creating fanfiction can be really helpful in developing both animation and writing skills, and can produce some really stunning work when people really put some effort into it. After all, it's a project that they're passionate about. Unfortunately, the best material based on licensed works gets buried under waves of dross, so I can understand your viewpoint - I used to be of the same viewpoint, but then I gave in, tried my hand at some things, and had a good time doing it.
Of course, what with the MBU, I would say that
I have done my best to encourage members to branch out and do something a bit different, and I think Immortal Iron Fist and Death's Head are proof that it's worked to a degree. Joebor1777 and Lisaisanut have both created brickfilms to really be proud of, licensed theme or not.

I hate to be the one to say it, but often people like that - who don't take the time to give as much as they take - aren't always the best to have in a community anyway. While I think it would be best to find a way to encourage them to be more active (and I'm all for helping to think up some methods), a lot of these posters simply won't be interested in watching other peoples' work or providing help and feedback in the other forums.
But hey, doesn't mean it's not worth trying to encourage them to post more.

Brickyman and Smeagol, I couldn't agree with you two more. It's just super hero mvie after super hero movie after, I could go on forever. To all of you who write the storys, create the characters and, well, make epic, unique and completely original ideas, I take my hat off to you!
I agree. Original Brickfilms are much better. I haven't made Star wars or DC/Marvel brickfilm and probably never will. We should bring back the superhero contest. That would churn up some Originality.

I'm not a fan of the DC/Marvel trend with Brickfilms because I can't say I've really seen many good ones. I'm not a superhero fan in general so when I see so many of these films I'm rarely interested. I think a lot of people working on these fail to realize that the strength in these films isn't in the good guy vs. bad guy formula but in the deeper moments and what the whole thing represents. The first time I watched The Dark Knight I was tired and missed part of it, and couldn't understand how anyone liked it. Now going back for a second viewing I see all the post 9/11 commentary and the story of Harvey tying together with everything else is what makes it so great.
On the other hand, I don't have as much of a problem with Star Wars Brickfilms because I have seen some with better stories. But in the end of the day originality is always a bit cooler.
Side note: Just got back from Bricks by the Bay. A lot of cool displays and I picked up some cool loot. If anyone is in the area for next year's I'd suggest it.
Jampot nailed it. The majority of IP-based brickfilms are unoriginal, only put here to get views, which in turn makes the creator money. However, I cannot say that all of them are unoriginal. I have seen a few that I really liked, and I didn't mind at all that they were licensed brickfilms. I liked them because they were funny, and that the IP wasn't just attached as a gimmick, but because it worked with the film. Honesty, in my opinion, I think people should be required to have 10 posts before being allowed to post to the directory. It might cut out on a bunch of people who only spam up the directory to get hits on their videos.
I don't think we need to have the "hate all IP films" mentality. We need to encourage people to post, be more creative, make more original films (original doesn't necessarily mean not use IP, it just means make the story more original), and become better animators.
The problem I'm getting at has nothing to do with IP films in particular, apologies if I'm going off-topic. What I mean is the outside brickfilmers come and kinda spam the forum with their work and I think it's not a great thing -- I don't necessarily disagree with jampot that they wouldn't be good members, but my bigger concern is the way it abuses and floods the Releases forum.
