I would never have thought of that.

it works very well.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Sorry for the slightly lame quality, I took this on my phone just so I had a record somewhere of the set. This is essentially one half of the setup. There are two other bits of ruined castle which will appear in the reverse shots and side shots, but I don't have enough bricks to set up both at once (which makes things a bit more time consuming - doesn't look like I'll be making a Christmas video this year). It's for a Hobbit parody that I meant to make before Desolation of Smaug came out, but I never got around to it. Ideally, I want to have this sequence, which is a short fight, fully shot before Friday.

I know, most of this is basically straight out of the Dol Guldur box with some slight modifications. The other two pieces of the set, which I'll show when I set up the reverse shot, are new though.

Is it only me that wishes that all the Middle-earth sets would continue past The Battle of Five Armies? It's a really popular line, and there's just as many potential sets as there are for Star Wars, and yet in 2015 both Hobbit and LotR sets will be discontinued. Such a pity ;-; now I just have to hope my vids go viral so I can afford all of the sets while they're still out (like that'd happen, but I can dream, can't I?).

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I like your use of the red leaves.  The way you've done it you get more red for only a few pieces, as those things are annoyingly uncommon.  I keep running into that problem.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I actually bought a bunch on Bricklink, along with more spider webs. I knew they'd be useful for these kinds of builds. Now I really want to get more leaves in odd colours, like the sand green and dark orange ones.

Ooh, two of my all time favorite LEGO colors! mini/smile

The set looks really nice, Jampot. Though, I would recommend uploading more pictures in different camera angles. The way the light shines behind the black backdrop really makes the set hard to see. Though, from what I can see, it perfectly fits with the whole "Hobbit" theme you're going for.

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out!

Dyland, Sand green is also one of my favorite colors.  I don't have many pieces in that color, though.

Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit were great themes to get those colors. It will be very much missed by this TFOL.

This is in bad quality, but here's a wall I built for my "Blue and Gray" movie that I intend to use for the Atlanta cityscape.

Try putting a few tree leaf pieces on the ground around the area.  It helps add a little texture to the ground, which at the moment feels a tad blank.

Hers some pictures of a set I have been working on for saved. What do you guys think?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

It looks good. The detail and color makes it interesting to look at, as well as the asymmetrical deign adds more of an attraction to the eye. The one dark grey slope is very distracting though, other than that I think it looks great!

It looks very good.  Very nice and sort of old looking.

Thanks a ton guys. Found a light gray slope so I replaced that.

This is playing the role of "generic brickfilm set" in the film I'm working on, which is why it's intentionally flat. What I can't decide on is the color of the couch. I can make it white, which would give a much more subdued feel, but I'm not sure if white would look weird for a couch. I'd build it for comparison, but the necessary parts are 300 miles away.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

The red looks just fine.
It adds some extra color in the room, and isn't quite as overpowering as it may seem.
The rest of the room is kinda dark, so you want a brighter couch to contrast that.
I'm thinking white will be too bright, and wouldn't look good with everything else.

I like the rest of the set. The staircase is simple, yet effective. The tan/black works really well, and the small bits of color in the bookcase really help brighten up the place.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

If it's 'generic brickfilm set' you're going for, you need that red couch as 100% of brickfilm couches are red. mini/tongue

It's not overpowering.
