Hey, it's a nice car! I'm the one who's really bad at vehicles.  Mine all look like early Legoland cars.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's pretty cool.  I actually had a similar idea for putting a person under bed covers.  Here's something I thought of that may work well with your design:  At the part closest to the head, put either a 1x4 brick with 4 side studs.  Put a jumper plate in the middle, onto the side studs, and cap the other 2 studs with 1x1 tiles.  Now you can stick the minifigure head onto the stud of the jumper plate!

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

This is how I did it, it should work for 5, 6 or even 7 wide cars. I am using the Technic bushes so the wheel stays on the axle, the normal wheel just slides off.

I think I'm about done with the set for Welcome to Darkmoor now.  If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to make it better if I can.  I've worked on it for so many months now that I want it to be the very best.

I am still making some rectifications to stability, though.  This thing is really hard to move.  It just won't slide very well across my wooden tables.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Whoa....That's amazing Squid.
I don't have any idea how you could make it better, I really don't.
Could you take a picture of the whole set, so we can see the scale compared to the desk?
Also, as always, could you take one in color?

My only concern is that building it so complete, with so many buildings/props close together, will severely limit the camera angles you can use. A webcam would be fine, but I don't know how well a DSLR will fit in between everything.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Thanks!

Don't worry, the set is designed to be taken apart and put back together with several chuncks that can be removed.  Of course, this process is extremely time consuming, as the set is fragile, and several objects need to be taken up first.  I estimate changing camera angles could take ten minutes sometimes.

I hope to have some pictures of the set in its full wretchedness one the film is out.  I don't want everyone remembering all of the ugly colours as they watch the film.  It's almost like properly seeing the set for the first time with these pictures, which is funny since I see it physically so much.

I'm also in a terribly good brickfilming mood right now, so that's good.  Hopefully I'll make progress soon.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That looks nice, really nice! I really like the scale, its massive! I can tell that you put a lot of time in to it. About changing things I don't really see much at all that I would change. The only too things that look just a little off to me, would be, the statue looks just a little odd in the cemetery [but I'm assuming that has something to do with the story]. Also the door on the building to the right, sticks out just slightly which looks just a little odd to me, But I think I'v mentioned that before, So I'm assuming thats just how you want it to look? So yea not really any thing looks bad at all, It looks AMAZING!

Hope that helps

That's probably the largest brickfilm set I've ever seen in one place. Sure, sets can seem large when on camera, and really be just a lot of small sets, but this one is enormous! I can't wait to see Darkmoor and see this is action. mini/bigsmile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Too much information, Gentry.

Thanks again guys!

Do you really think the statue looks weird, Osom?  Though, actually, I'm not sure as to which statue you mean to indicate, as there are two graveyards, the North one and the South one.  The south one, the main fenced one, has one, he's go a scythe and a fancily printed cracked statue body and robe from a Hobbit set.  The North graveyard isn't fenced and has two statues, the light grey bearded guy with a cup, and then the dark statue in the hood and robe.  The latter is actually brown, but I used him to take advantage of this film being in greyscale.
So which one did you mean?  Or did you mean all of them?

As for the detail on the building on the right, I think I'll go ahead and keep it.  I feel that if I remove it it will end up making the front of the building look way too flat.

I might also move some trees around a little if anyone thinks one might do better elsewhere.  I did put a ridiculously large amount of thought into the tree placement, but I'm constantly second guessing myself and unsure.  I could perhaps more trees to the sidewalls to make the background feel more natural and the centere less crowded.  But I do like many of the trees there.

Also, for reference, here's the map I drew of the town before starting the set.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3908/14278426078_c0f8a32850_c.jpg

(Up is North)

The East and West sidewall chunks are actually the same piece, just reused for either side since both sides will never be seen at the same time.  The trees do repeat, but I'm hoping it's not too noticeable.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's incredible.

The only thing I'd suggest is that you use some plates, cheese slopes, flat plant elements (of the sort you've used on the trees), and suchlike to put on the ground in front of the gravestones, to show that the ground has been dug up or overgrown.  Right now I feel like just putting the gravestones on the ground like that looks a bit odd.  Also, I'd give the statues (especially in the North Cemetery) a small decorative base or something like that, as it looks a bit odd having them just stuck directly on the ground like that.  Aside from that, I think the slopes with hollow studs that you've used for the landscaping should have their studs covered, since seeing them exposed looks a bit off to me.

Aside from that, though, the town looks amazing.  These are all just minor tweaks, you've done an excellent job.

Squid, really amazing set designs, this looks epic mate.. You're doing an awesome job as most have already said, I can't say theres anything I dislike about it.

I am very excited to see this in full motion. Do you have any idea when this film will be released? How are you progressing? And will be any chance of a behind the scenes video?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Here's a set I'll probably be using for THAC.
Been trying to experiment with using studs and tiles as decorations, and this was the result.
The wall is sturdy enough to animate on, but I'm not sure how well that would actually work.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Wow, that's great. My sets look lacking when I look at your great set. Using plates as walls is a really good idea, in fact, it allows more creative possibilities. How did you get the ceiling to be curved?
