Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

It's perfectly fine to aim high, and in this case is a good thing since you're definitely keeping this project alive. I feel so badly, I started this whole thing and keep forgetting about it. mini/sad

I'm still trying to get through the software section, though it's pretty slow-going (especially since I lost a lot of hard work on one of the pages and that kinda discouraged me for a little while).

It would be great if someone could take a shot at is expanding the cameras section (adding more info and such on different cameras, specifically the popular ones like Logitech webcams and DSLRs), that is a major part of brickfilming and I think it would be good to have a good set of articles on it.

I do think that the chat is fairly useless at the moment, we might as well relieve some of the homepage space.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Okay I've removed chat from the home page. I don't mind giving working on cameras a go (as both a Logitech and canon owner) mini/smile

Shame that you lost some work mini/sad When I'm making particularly large amounts of changes to a page I tend to 'select all' and 'copy' the page's contents every one is a while as a form of backup.

Finally don't feel bad, you've contributed a lot to this wiki already! mini/bigsmile

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Ah this thing...

UPDATE
2 months on, the wiki is not dead! (It is still a mess however). I personally haven't been very active on it but I have  made a few cosmetic changes to the homepage of the site to make it a bit more tidy.

Anyway I've decided that in an attempt to help keep this project a float I will from now on try and post slightly more regularly in this thread with a few suggestions on how Brikifilms could be helped. So here goes:

I'm aware that editing on a wiki is a very time consuming task (I don't really have any time myself!) but if you have half an hour spare sometime then there's always something to do.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Sorry, I keep meaning to add a ton of pages, mainly of films in Nathan's archive list. Uni's been crazy, but hopefully I'll have time soon!

Just created our 100th page! It's a bit of a stub, but I tried my best with the time I had. I might edit it more later or tomorrow. Check it out and perhaps edit it?

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

IDEA: What if, instead of just putting brickfilmers most popular brickfilm on their wiki, we do a whole filmography?

Like the ones you see on Wikipedia? That's a great idea!

Thanks, we should have a admin of the wiki approve first before we do it though.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Of course. The idea's up here, so we'll just wait to see what BoatsAreRockable thinks.

Sounds good to me! (Although I don't think there was ever a specific restriction on doing so)

http://brickfilming.wikia.com/wiki/Top_ … great_film
I nominate this page to be deleted.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Honestly, right now, the wiki is a complete and utter disaster. I appreciate the work Rocky has been putting into it, but I feel the whole wiki is a mess. The entire focus appears to be on members desperately trying to create pages for themselves instead of focusing on listing brickfilms of actual importance.

Without some serious overhauling and reformation, this wiki will collapse into a pool of self-centeredness and egotism.

We need some active members on the staff with powers to actually impact and shape the wiki. More admins would be best, ideally some actual mods from BiM.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

I agree with Nathan, I nominate Nathan as admin

I kind of have a presence over on the wiki (I used to be a lot more active but other stuff has got in the way recently). One of the things I talked about with Boats was brickfilm character and location pages, and I've started by using BFCU films, but I really need to sit down and spend an afternoon working through making a proper template.

My plan is to  start applying the templates with Nick Durron's brickfilms (particularly the Tompa City Menace) since his films have a strong sense of canon and great cinematic quality, but it's just that finding the time has been difficult.

Looking back, the way I've done stuff so far does look quite egotistical, so sorry about that; it wasn't my intention. While I was working stuff out, i thought it'd be best to use films I was really familiar with.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

I don't think brickfilm and character locations are what this wiki should be about. Brickfilms don't have overarching canon for the most part, and if they do, most people don't care. This wiki should be about the brickfilms themselves, and the creators of those brickfilms. Do we really need a wiki page for Santa?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think something needs to change with the stuff that you have posted as well:http://brickfilming.wikia.com/wiki/Deck_the_Trolls This is an entry to the animation challenge! It shouldn't have a page!

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Nathan and Rocky, while I appreciate your concern, I have discussed all of this in-depth with BoatsAreRockable.

I'd also like to point out that in future, people are more likely to contribute to the wiki if they are allowed to add content about their own brickfilms as well as those made by others.

That's fine, but an entry to the animation challenge? Why?

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

I firmly believe this is the wrong direction for the wiki to take. We shouldn't try to become Memory Alpha or Wookiepedia. We need should be focusing on important, significant brickfilms and the creators of those brickfilms, not random characters in a "shared universe." There needs to be a better hierarchy and some actual guidelines put in place.

Unless some standards and rules are put in place the wiki will collapse into a bloated mess.
