Topic: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb13/brickfilming/images/8/89/Wiki-wordmark.png

Last year as a result of this topic MightyWanderer founded a Brickfilming wikia called 'Brikifilms'.

It was essentially made to eventually become a comprehensive encyclopedia of all things to do with Brickfilming.

After some initial excitement things became a bit dead on it and in recent months I've, for most part been the only editor on it.

I don't know if anyone is actually interested but it would be great if some of you guys came and made a wikia account and then helped out with the wiki by editing and adding bits to existing pages or creating new ones.

Or if you just want to browse it and post some suggestions here that would be good too.

If you have no idea how to edit a wiki there's lots of help available on the wiki itself and feel free to ask any questions.

Click to visit Brikifilms!

Wikis are supposed to be community websites so check it out and I hope to see you around! mini/smile

It's not bad, maybe with some more revision and improved vocabulary the site may be appealing to everyone of all ages! mini/smile

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

UPDATE:
Awhile ago when this wiki was first made there was debate about how to decide which Brickfilmers were 'worthy' of having their own page on the wiki.

In a long overdue answer to this I have created 3 criterias for new pages about individuals (and at least one must apply to create a page about someone). These are:

1) Have over 10,000 subscribers on YouTube
2) Have recieved 1st place in an official competition on Bricks In Motion, Brickfilms.com or the Brickfilmers Guild
3) Receive atleast 3 votes in this list.

Criteria's 1 and 2 are self explanatory but the 3rd one is essentially use of wikia's list function. It looks like this:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cVsq0icILYQ/UrbbJuLzaJI/AAAAAAAAAno/hxymELR-Zcg/w1380-h556-no/potentialpages.png
Anyone can vote and add people to this list and when someone reaches 3 votes a wiki page can be made for them.

I hope this makes sense and I was wondering whether any adjustments need to be made to this criteria.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

That's a good idea, thanks for adding it. Do you think adding other brickfilming communities, such as Bric-A-Brac, to the contest winners list?

Also, on the film directory topic, what do you say about implementing criteria for the films similar to that of the brickfilmers (for example, 10,000+ views, won a competition, received X number of votes on our list)?

I really apologize for not being very active on this, I haven't really been able to think of anything to add.

Yeah that's a good point, I suppose the German site BrickBoard deserves adding too.

Another good point, although I think the number of views would probably have to be significantly higher than 10,000 since even some of my YouTube videos have more than that! mini/lol

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

UPDATE:
I've began creating the first of hopefully many pages about individual brickfilmers. The 'honour' for the first page goes to... thefourmonkeys:
http://brickfilming.wikia.com/wiki/thefourmonkeys

This page isn't finished but I'd welcome feedback because other pages about people will take a similar format.

Also I'd welcome some suggestions on who to make a page for next (Although consider the criteria which is admittedly not perfect mentioned in a previous post.)

Finally, I feel I'm gonna be saying this a lot but any contributions to the wiki would be greatly welcomed!

Oh and could the mods consider moving this, perhaps the general film sub forum would be a better place

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

I'm having problems with the site.  I signed up to add "Holding Our Own" to the body of films.  For a reason I can't fathom, Wikia bans the word "holding" from all wikia topic titles.  I couldn't contact anyone about it because the page forever has a "loading" animation anywhere you can post or send msgs, so there's never a submit button.

Sorry about your problem, I don't think it's to do with the word holding! Perhaps try clearing your browser's cache. Anyway I've added Holding Our Own to the voting list here.

Also thank you to JamPot and Rockydude411 for contributing!!!

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Goodness the software section burned my eyes. Theres hardly anything there. I will add to it immensely, Maybe. I am short on time this week. Someone can use the forums resource section or software list to help.

EDIT

Added to the tripods, things to the software page, etc. Nothing major.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

I currently revamping the software page as we speak! Keep adding it to though it as I'm trying to make it more visually pleasing and move it to a category page.

Equipment in general is very much one of the wiki sections that needs a lot of work.

Thanks for your help Silents! mini/smile

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

As long as they're all formatted correctly, there should be pages for individual brickfilms. Your wiki is good, but low on content atm.

Here's a wiki I did some serious work on a while back: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Superpower_Wiki

Here's a page I created (though it's had lots of edits since then):
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Metal_Manipulation

Have a look at the format, content and volume of the wiki. You're on the right track, but there's still a lot of building to do. I can only offer advice I'm afraid - I've already got a lot of projects on my plate, but I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Can you tame the beast that is my MonkeyJam page. I can't add the photo I uploaded .-.
Also being a first timer at this, I don't know if my page is up to the standards. I did follow the guidelines though.

EDIT

Also might I recommend a skype group for discussions amongst editors .-. unless Wikia has a better way.

@Silents429
It looks like MightyWanderer has fixed your image for you mini/smile

I have just turned on an updated version of Wikia's forum and talk page functions. They actually seem quite sleek - particularly the new forum. I think this would be the best place for discussions among editors. It is available here:
http://brickfilming.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Forum

And if I have configured it correctly you should all receive a message from myself in the top corner of your screens

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Cleaned it up a bit.

IMPORTANT: I've created a scroll box template for the wiki. Put {{scroll box|content= at the beginning of a list and }} at the end to make one. Go to the MonkeyJam page to have a look at how it works.

Hope this helps! Also, you need to make an infobox for software, as opposed to user infoboxes and brickfilm infoboxes. Having different infoboxes for different categories of item will look pretty good.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Thanks a lot Jampot you seem to have a lot of knowledge on this! mini/lol

Also:
MightyWanderer could you possibly make a banner similar to the art and films ones on the homepage for The Community section of the wiki using a blue background for the gradient?

Sure! Is there a particular picture you can think of that we might want to use?

Thanks a lot, silents and jampot.

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Well, wikibuilding was a hobby of mine for a while, a few years back. Learnt quite a lot about building templates, formatting, and I seem to remember making a lot of banners and stuff (the banner that's used on Superpower wiki is mine mini/bigsmile  ).

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Thanks for doing that.  I'm going to vote and maybe the series' other voice acotrs can make a vote.  I removed "Holding" from the title when I tried and "Our Own" was approved.  Also, my cache is clear every time I go online.  So thanks for helping.  If the page gets made then I can edit it.

No problem HoldingOurOwn!

MightyWanderer wrote:

I was thinking the picture should be of a group of mini figures or something like that to represent community, but that's just a suggestion.

Also does anyone thing the amount of votes you need to 'be worthy of' a page should be higher than 3?
Remember that people with over 10,000 YouTube subs or first place in an official competition on a brickfilming community website are automatically entitled to a page. (Although I have been putting such people on the list anyway to help prioritize the order of page creation.)

Re: Brikifilms - A Brickfilming Wiki, NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Go by total number of views across videos; 10,000 is unrealistic and a bit elitist really.
