*Pikmin theme*

Obviously not really intended for animation (I didn't use any glue or sticky tack, so it's pretty fragile) but I was proud of it and figured I'd throw it out there.

El bump.

I built a TF2 Engineer, even though I haven't ever played TF2... yet.

I also made a bunch of minifigs from a certain TV show.  You may notice a Pattern with these... (and no, it's not "guess-which-set-I-just-bought-today", in case you're wondering.)

Spoiler (click to read)

It's Fringe, in case you hadn't guessed.  (And yes, I know Olivia's hair isn't entirely accurate and Astrid should really have a brown head/hands like Broyles, but it's the nearest thing I have.

EDIT:  I don't know why that last pic is so weirdly grainy.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Just realized that while I've been working on my film for 4 years I haven't made the films villain, I probably spent longer experimenting with parts for this then any other minifig ever, I started off with the tux version on the left, but I think the blue version pops better on the set, thoughts? He is an evil scientist with a underground base on a private island.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Tux is much better.

Though, I would find a face that isn't so scarred.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I'm really not liking the black minifig on black set, just not what I need visually, I was getting feedback on the Facetubes that the blue is not the right look and the black still blends to well with the set so I am going to order one of these dudes and get another Serous Sam to, I love his face print with the widowed peak hair, I think that tonality it fits the film really well.

so, what do you think?

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Woah, you have SDCC official figs? I'm so jealous! Green Lantern doesn't come out for the rest of us mere mortals until early 2015 mini/lol

I love Zod's neck brace (that's a hilarious idea), the Dark Knight Batman suit looks really cool, Hush's cloak is fantastic. For Poison Ivy, I'd suggest trying a different version. I know she's normally very scantily clad, but it looks a bit odd in Lego. I like your Arkham Scarecrow in the background there.

I've done a Black Manta as well, if you need help. Basically, I painted one of those train light pieces - the chrome ones that look like bowls - black, blu-tacked a trans-red saucer on top and then blu-tacked a black saucer on top of that. I think it looks pretty good. Your Aquanaut helmet idea also works really well, though maybe put some more dark old grey in the body to balance the colours a bit. New and old grey look odd together.

haha, yeah, I REALLY wanted them...

hush is cool, your right, you want poison ivy less scantily clad... FINE MUM. mini/tongue mini/tongue mini/tongue  yeah, does look a little odd i guess, might give her a cloak like hush...

ok, yeah, if those masks dont work, I might just design a part and get it 3d printed. might as well....

just really want some feed back on that aqua man, as he'll face off against black manta in my next big action flick...

EDIT: btw, I do like your Black manta. just not quite my style...

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Your Aquaman looks great, and the legs totally work. Don't suppose you might consider giving him his magic-hydrokinetic or harpoon hand replacements? I think those would look really cool with the older Aquaman that you've gone for.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

when did he get the blue hand?

to answer your q, yes, I did, yet, this is his first fight with black manta, I sorta wanna start his story with 'surface dwellings' here. so, not yet.

Long after the harpoon-hand (I think it was like 2004 or 2005, around the time of Green Lantern: Rebirth) he has a shave and the Lady of the Lake (as in from Arthurian legend) gives him a magic hand that can control water, heal stuff, make water-portals and has a controllable death touch. Then he became a pirate for a few years only to get killed off, turned into a Black Lantern zombie, and then became the errand boy of the White Entity. Then the New 52 happened and we were allowed to forget all those silly things (except pirate Aquaman, and the Blackest Night event was kinda' cool despite the goofy concept).

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

OK, well, I am considering it sometime in the series. thanks.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

No probs. Always nice to help another DC fan. I myself actually have plans to do Aquaman VS Black Manta, though I'm not entirely sure if it'll be a brickfilm yet.

OK, some more evolution of my baddie, I am considering removing the red trident from the center legs if I use that, nail polish remover works great and the red, with a nautical theme limits what I can use the pants for anyway (could put blue gloves with those legs as well) thoughts, comments?

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I like the blue hands, perhaps you should try them with the printed white legs.

As for the trident, you could try, but then I'd recommend having the hands either the dark gray, or a lime green color. (The latter to match the leg details and (sorta) the test tube on the torso.)

Having green details, blue hands, and the gray/white/yellow/black body parts may be a bit much. That being said, I always err to the side of simple when choose minifigure colors, and you may wanna branch out from that.

BUT, aren't you going to a more classic-y old-school feel? In that case, should you have printing on the legs?
The white legs have way too much detail, and while the gray ones look fine without the trident, it's still extra printing that doesn't come from that era. Just a thought.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I would go for the second one, but with white hips.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I like the first one, personally. The dark gray legs look a lot better than plain old white. I like the blue hands too. It's a great accent color.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I have that torso an a similar figure, for it I use black gloves and black pants.  I tend to like that combo best.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I've been getting a lot of feed back on these, from here as well as the facetubes, so I do think the blue gloves are staying, I feel like they give a nice pop, and tie into the over all color scheme of the set, which is owned by this scientist anyway. I'm getting enough mixed feedback on the pants that I'm going to have to take a few shots on the set and just pick one, if I hadn't shown all the choices I think I could have used any of them and all would have worked very well in the theme.

@Squid: I feel like black pants/gloves is a cop out, if I am making a color film, I should talk advantage of color, I love vivid colors popping on screen, sort of gives it an almost technicolor feel.

I'm going for a somewhat pseudo-classic look, my main figures have pretty modern prints on the chest piece, the one in dark blue (which is a pretty modern LEGO color) even has a back print, although nither charicter has a leg print:

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

In that case, so something with blue gloves, because blue medical gloves look a little cool.
Two by two, hands of blue.
