Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

I can help with Coding it in Java and it'll run cross platform, I'd need someone to help with image capturing and playback but it should be fine and work without internet connection.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

We are probably going to use web languages and then create a wrapper so they can run like a normal computer program.

I listen to every thing you say lol.
Also any suggestions for a new name or should we keep the current one? (Biscuit)

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Biscuit is good. I think BiM should be a part of the name.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Biscuit is a subtle way of highlight the program's origins on BiM that doesn't put off non-brickfilming stop motion animators from using it. Even though it doesn't really fit in with the abbreviation can I suggest that we call it Biscuit Animator? I think this would make the program's functionality much clearer.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Can I suggest you compile a list of desired functions before you start talking about gui's.

What are the immediate goals (eg show a web cam live view, press a button, capture image on disk).

What are your intermediate goals?  (Eg enable fast playback and render in mp4 format).

What are your advanced goals (eg have onion skin, lip sync sheets and dslr support).

From a career in software development I can strongly suggest, step 1 = what are the requirements?  And keep it small and real while your team goes through the forming/storming/nmorming/performing phases.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

An advanced goal I hope we can achieve, which I think will be a first for any capture program, is to have a feature to allow masking in program. It could save people using their frames in photoshop or after effects.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Let's not try to do DSLR support but we should have an image import feature, so if you have a DSLR you want to use, you can import your images.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Image import would probably be easiest to do rather than a frame capture (I'm guessing again). Do we want this to be a frame capture software, or a program to turn a bunch of images into a sequence or video?

I'd much rather see DSLR support, I know its a pain in the ass but I'm sure we could get it done if we put our minds to it no?

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

I think we can get DSLR support, but let's work on a stable version first, and move from there mini/smile If we can see how our hard work is coming together sooner, then maybe we'll get further through the development, and people can also start animating sooner mini/smile

DSLR support will come eventually, but let's put that later down the track. Import will do fine.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

DSLR can be supported by the DSLR user downloading a program on their computer that allows them to use it like a webcam.  If I can find the program I will update this with a link.
Just search google for DSLR as Webcam and you will find something.

Also I think we might be ready to start coding this!

Do you use a DSLR? Do you know how difficult that is? (Ok, it's not too difficult for a Cannon, because their cameras come with software, but I use Nikon...) I don't have live view on my DSLR, so I can't just download "a program on their computer that allows them to use it like a webcam." Sure, webcams are priority for a stop-motion software because the majority of people use them, but us DSLR users are left in the dust and have to use programs like DigiCamControl (which is just a simple tethering software that doesn't sequence). Maybe they should be of equal importance. Obviously, the DSLR live view would be more difficult than just capture because you would probably need the company specific APIs, but hey, capture is way better than nothing. If I just want to import and sequence, I can do it in Sony Vegas. mini/wink

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

I actually don't use a webcam and my camera cannot connect to the computer.  But if a program is not available for dslr users they will need to import.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

I think we don't need support for every camera, but we should allow import. I got a new camera because dragonframe didn't support my camera, and it didn't have an import feature.

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Of course it is not possible for us to support every camera ever but we should aim for webcam live view initially and then Nikon / Canon DSLRs. This is simply in (what I think will be) order of simplicity. An import feature should be avaliable as a full back for non compatible cameras or if the user wants to include additional frames (eg masked ones or join two different shots)

I say we need to press to create something that can do basic frame capturing, sequencing, playback and exporting to video. After this different individuals or whatever can work on Canon Live View support, Nikon Live View support, onion skinning,  an import feature etc (I suggest a wanted features/suggestions list is put together)

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Okay we shall make a list!
Also we will only support webcams and then will add support for other cameras.
Guidelines for list:
Add next number and features/suggestions
1. Webcam Support
2. Framecapture
3. (Your suggestion)
You will post all aforementioned suggestions plus your own, once we reach a full list I will edit the first post with the full list.
Thank you all for your input!

Re: Biscuit | Version 1.1.1 OUT NOW!

Excellent. Can I also suggest when the list is done we split the items into initial priorities, important features and eventual features? (Or something similar)
