I don't usually plan out my sets with drawings before making them, but the town of Welcome to Darkmoor is so large that I drew it out on grid paper before started it to make sure I had enough base plates.

Each squire represents an 8 x 8 chunk of land. The more thick lines show the ends of all of the major pieces. There are eleven total, with the sidewall section being re-used for either side since you can never see both side walls at the same time, so I'll just have one.
The set consists of a road leading to a circular town square with a pale tree in the middle. Around the square sits the town hall (marked by the top hat of the Mayor), the Church (marked by the cross), and the shop (marked by a question mark). In the corners of town are flat areas each with slightly different levels of elevation marked with up or down arrows. In the one with the skull there is a graveyard, and on the other side of the road there is a well. I also have a windmill I'll need to but someplace.
The side wall and back wall refer to a short wall of rock which I'll be using to hide my lack of horizon and transition more naturally into the sky background.
As well as being unreasonably large in the total area of studs this covers, all of the land is supported with columns around 10 bricks off of the base plates. This is to make it possible to work in certain specific details like a freshly dug grave in the cemetery, or the hole for the well.
This thing is taking a miserably long time to build. It's so huge. I hope I don't run out of bricks because this is going to be close.
Hopefully soon I'll have some good pictures of the actual thing.
Squid, this is a cool pic. I love production pics. I can see the various 16x16 plates dividing yr work. I love this kinds of stuff because it shows a glimpse ideas while they are young or fresh. I just rediscovered about 200 pages of early notes, lyrics and sketches from my band and a lot are rough album cover ideas and differnet visual concepts.
I'm currently working on a garage for Avengers Tower: Ultron Ascending. While I don't want the set to be crowded, as I still need a lot of space to animate a fight in, I think it looks a little empty at the moment. Black Panther's just standing there fo da lolz. Sorry for the image quality and the horrible flash, but I took these about five minutes ago.


Let me know if you think it's too dark, too. I'm already considering rebuilding it completely to make it look more like this. If I did, I'd probably also be able to make it bigger, though I'm not sure how many red bricks I have left after the set I used in the other two episodes of Avengers Tower (which I'm not ready to take apart yet).
Maybe you could have a throwaway comment about how a vehicle's out for repairs. Otherwise it looks pretty good.
The only problem I have with this set is the avenging cycle. It's way too flashy and I'd rather see Captain America on a normal motorcycle like the movies or the comics.
Jampot, there is an aesthetically pleasing attention to detail in that set.

Looks great. I should probably plan out more of my stuff as well. Though that thing is so huge I probably couldn't even fit it on my animating desk. If you don't have enough bricks, you could just build a basic façade fore the outside, and use separate, smaller sets for interior scenes that can be built and rebuilt as needed. That actually might be more convenient as you wouldn't have to have the entire set of the town on the animating table the whole time.

I like it, though the walls look a bit bland. Also, maybe add a half-built car or something off to one side so it's not in the way (doesn't Tony Stark always work on hot rods?) or perhaps a few Iron Man suits/workspace.
I decided to rebuild it pretty much from scratch. It's now wider, taller, and more colourful. The left wall comes out so I can put it on the right for certain shots. I'm also reworking the design on the door, as (may) need too it to open (not sure how much will be animated and how much will be VFX yet). The tires and gas canisters from the original model are now underneath the black gangway on the right, and I'm thinking I'll put a couple of motorbikes in the other room at the back of the garage. I'm also intending for this set to become the main set for any future Avengers Tower episodes I might do (although Ultron Ascending looks to be one of the last).


I think it looks a lot better and more interesting to the viewer's eye. The original was good, but this newer rendition does give you a lot more space to animate in.
The hexagonal doorway looks great! And the red works well with the grays.

On the hexagonal doorway I would make it have a darker, inner core, either grey or black, if you can do it I would inset the door core by half a stud, but you would have to raise the floor a tiny level so you could use some of these, whatever they are called.

I like the way you did the three wheels but the basket and baby need to be a bit bigger in my opinion.

Yep, but only because there was a woman pushing it. Maybe try what they did with it in one of the modular sets (I forget witch one it was in though
)

OK, I think this actually works:
I like the pram with the bonnet better. The second looks like a woman is carting around a crying decapitated head, not like a pram. Maybe on the bonnet one, you could make the middle wheel farther away from the back two.
I may also like the very first one you put here. But don't go with the guillotine basket. ![]()
I honestly think people will figure it out no matter which one you use; unless it's the focus of a shot, as apposed to a background prop, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think I like the last one the best; it's a bit more cartoony, but that's not a bad thing in a brickfilm.
This is about half of the set that I'm currently filming on. I am unable to fit the whole thing on my animation table, so I built in in a modular fashion. It is set on the beach, with a highway(off the table), beach, parking lot and dock.

The size is highly impressive! However, the set looks a bit bland. Try adding some rocks/different colours of sand to the beach, and try make the shoreline uneven. Also, I'd recommend building custom buildings and vehicles instead of using too many official LEGO ones. I love the camera movement in the clip, though; it is very smooth.
Anyway, I'm working on a city street set, and this is what I have so far:

It's still a WIP, but I don't quite feel satisfied with it and I can't quite place my finger on it. Any suggestions?
Also, I built a police car. I wanted to make it look a bit futuristic, but for some reason I think it ended up looking more like an '80s American muscle car...
