Re: What was the last movie you watched?
The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed)
A very beautiful cutout animation film from 1926 (thus making it the oldest surviving animated feature film). It's remarkably entertaining; I highly recommend it.
Woah, that sounds really cool, I'm going to have to check that out!
And the last film I saw was:
E.T- The Extra Terrestrial
I bought the Deluxe Special Edition DVD on boxing day for six bucks (best deal ever, came with three DVDs, the soundtrack, a book, a 35mm film frame from the film and certificate of authenticity!) The second disc was the original theatrical version of the film, which I hadn’t seen since I was very young.
Of course, it was a great film, Steven Spielberg really created a beautiful masterpiece here. All the actors are great, which is impressive since the main characters are very young! What's really wonderful about E.T is that people argue about whether it's a kid’s movie or not. And I think this argument come up because E.T. isn't a movie that treats it's audience like it's stupid (which tons of kids movies do!) The truth is, kids are not often given the level of respect for their intelligence that they deserve. E.T. and Spielberg do respect their intelligence with this film however, and because of this, a wonderful journey with multi-dimensional characters that is fun for everyone was made! As a kid, you always knew when you were being ripped off (made for video Disney sequels anyone?) but E.T. didn’t rip you off, and because of this, is still fun to watch no matter how old you are.
On a semi-side note, I actually do think that the slightly updated version which came out a few years ago (disc one in the set) was an improvement on the original, and I'll be watching that next!
