Re: I Am The Night

Congratulations, I wish I had a completely dark place to animate; lucky.

The new Vortex animation studio is done. mini/delirium
For many reasons, this will make I Am The Night a lot better and easier to make.

The best part about this is the table. Before, I animated on the floor, which can be uncomfortable, or somewhat painful after a long dose of animating, so I took breaks a bunch to make my legs feel better and I couldn't film quite as much as I wanted. Now I can sit in a comfortable chair and animate with no worry about that.

On top of that, the table has an elevation for the animation set. This way I can put the tripod on the table with the set on the elevation, making the camera and subject be at about the same height.

Supporting the elevation are four stacks of Duplo blocks. This way, I can change the number of blocks to adjust the height of the elevation and the set's height relative to the camera and tripod.
The topmost blocks are actually screwed into the elevation itself.

I've had some hangers put on the wall at several levels so I can set up my canvas backgrounds at different heights.
Like always, I have one blue painting for day, and a black one with white dots for night and space scenes. I've redone the latter as a canvas since it used to be a huge heavy board of wood.

Some shelves for keeping stuff handy.
The top shelf is for minifigures for the film and other stuff, the lower one for some sets and elements for sets.

Dusters, effects lights, animation and camera accessories.
And some useful LEGO pieces along with the cranky pushy thingy.

Before, I had stuff like this randomly spread across the ground I kept losing stuff for a while, which was quite bothersome.

The only downside to this studio is how hot it gets in the afternoon this time of year, however, I think it's worth it for all of the positives.

This is a huge upgrade for me. For the last few days I've felt all giddy and cheery inside, not as I have felt in far too long. It's almost time once again to do what I love doing the most: brickfilming.

I've been doing some tests to get back into the spirit, and I'll do some more for several days, plus watch some of my films and other films I really like, then I'll finally animate I Am The Night.
And I know it's gonna be so awesome.

Re: I Am The Night

Wow! It looks great! Funnily enough I have a studio just like this one! It was already built into my bedroom (lucky me) and had these no light curtains and a nice big desk perfect for animation mini/smile .

Re: I Am The Night

Mr.Munchy is going to be in this!!!! mini/smile

Re: I Am The Night

It wouldn't be much of an ANP film without Munchy. mini/tongue

In other news, I've been making random test animations like mad, I have a good bit now, and I'll probably release them soon. They're looking pretty nice, too.
It's so good to be animating mini/smile This table makes it so delightful! mini/bigsmile

RAINBOWS!!! mini/delirium lol Nice setup! And I spotted your trademark squid mini/tongue

Re: I Am The Night

Okay, I'll bite. Why "Vortex Animation Studio?" Is it based off a trademarked system? Is it truly a whirling abyss in the fabric of time and space? Or is it simply such an excellent setup that you've decided it deserves a Proper Name?

Because that's the name of the room itself. It has been so for years, long before I ever thought of making it into an animation studio.

Moving to this house 8 years ago, we stuffed a lot of unpacked rubbish into this side room upstairs. We got some stuff unpacked, however, it stayed a pretty awful and chaotic mess most of the time. We called this room "The Vortex" as it doesn't really suit the name of any room I can think of, and it summed up the disaster of a room pretty nicely. Some had tried to tame this wilderness, adding some organization to the chaos, but it was still a pretty bad most mess of the time, then it's power grew back again, an unrelenting beast of rubbish. However, after so many years, my brother Wilson decided he would conquer the Vortex once and for all for a new animation studio I was thinking up. So, after many, many months, he won. And the Vortex is now an organized neat room. Since we've called it the Vortex for so many years, I don't think I'll ever call it anything else.

Re: I Am The Night

This project has been in pre-production for a year and a half. Until today.

I Am The Night is now in the production stage.

This is the first frame of animation, though, it's not an actual frame from the film, as it'll need some cropping, TV details, and be put on a telly in some random bloke's room through an extremely complex shot and set of effects which I don't really want to explain at the moment.

Like the bat-signal? I used a piece from the Bat-cave, since this was a relatively small shot.

(And if a Moderator would be so kind, I'd be delighted if you could move this over to the Production section) mini/smile

Re: I Am The Night

Love the torso and buildings in the background. I don't know if the bat-signal really looks like it is being illuminated in the sky though.

Re: I Am The Night

Yeah, that's probably true, oh well. I think it's reasonably nice, and more like the comics or the '60s, which I somewhat like.

Wow. Awesome setup ANP. Now I want to have a better studio too mini/lol I think the bat-signal looks nice mini/smile

Personally, I really hate Forrestfire's stuff. mini/tongue A total insult to the awesomeness of Batman. I intend to make something wayyyyyyy better. mini/smile

I totally agree will that statement.

Re: I Am The Night

I love your city skyscrapers... they're awesome and you are one of the best animators what do I know. But it's nice that your project continues and you can animate now. mini/smile

Re: I Am The Night

Th joker looks perfect! and I've always wondered how you make batman's head glow, real or effects?

Re: I Am The Night

Looks good, man!

My big question is: How are you going to fit a goofy, comedic character like Munchy into such a dark and serious film?
