I, Robot
Yup. Very entertaining. And the story is fairly intelligent.

Spoiler (click to read)

But it's kinda too futuristic to be taking place in 2035 or whatever.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

That's a problem with most science fiction. Take 2001, for instance.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Batman Returns

Its not good. I dont get how Burton can nail the character of Batman in the first movie, yet completely miss the point in the second. The whole point is that Batman is the essence of good. Yes, he's a badass, but he's The Dark Knight - Gotham city's saviour. Burton somehow thinks that Batman is just like the villains, hiding in his big spooky mansion and in reality being "just as f**ked up" as Catwoman and The Penguin (I'm quoting Burton here). And, whilst I've never really cared about 'The Code on Honour' that fan-boy's are so obsessed about

Heck - Batman's barely in this movie! He vanishes underneath three other major villains and Burton's laughable gothic-crap. The Penguin is a confused mess of screen-writing - he's not intimidating like The Joker, but he's not likeable like in that one episode of the Animated Series which is very similar to this movie - only much MUCH better. Catwoman is ridiculously underdeveloped - and her origin is bull crap (seriously...how the hell did she suddenly turn into an S&M gymnast by falling out of a window and being bitten by cats? Did the cats have poisionous venom like Spiderman?). Max Schrek is my favourite just because Christopher Walken is hilarious as always ("Bruce Wayne! Why are you dressed like Batman!?"), but like Catwoman he's also underdeveloped.

I love the Brazil-inspired steampunk/film-noir visuals of the first movie, but this is basically Beetlejuice. Heck, its Nightmare Before Christmas in live action - and it just looks silly. How am I supposed to feel intimidated by The Penguin when he's riding a giant rubber duck? Is an army of penguins supposed to be funny? Because I laughed. I also laughed at the tragic ending when

Spoiler (click to read)

The Penguin suddenly drops down dead for no reason after waiting underwater for the right moment to pop up again and die. This moment was completely ruined by the Penguins - who apparently have super-strength - push him back into the water like a funeral procession.

Finally: Burton tries to make this a social satire and, like almost everything else in this movie, fails spectacularly. A comic book movie is most likely the worst place to try and satire anything - aside from maybe other comic book movies. Actually no, comic book movies can sometimes make good satire (I'm thinking Kick A$$) - but not THIS movie. You have a man who was raised by penguins, a woman who, and a man who dresses like a bat and fights crime...and your trying to seriously satirise. Yes, Batman is serious - but when you try and be political (which means you have to acknowledge the real world) in a world so fictitious; you just look like an idiot.

This movie is the first Batman movie on an illegal substance: a more obnoxious incarnation with about a quarter of the coherency and zero grasp on what Batman's actually about.

(Oh, and the ending makes no sense either. The final shot has clearly been added at the last moment by the studio because their worried about audiences reactions. This is why I believe studio interference almost instantly kills a movie)

Dude that's weird, I literally just watched the movie and come onto the thread and see this post.
Anyway, I kinda have the same opinions, also, why exactly does Will Smith sleep with a gun? xD

The Truman Show

I actually wacthed this a while back but I really liked the fresh idea and the fact that Jim Carrey was his normal goofy self.

Not sure why the critics are so hard on this one, it's quite good. One of the most fun theatres experiences I've had in recent times. 4/5

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

^ This. Everyone should go see this movie. While I wouldn't call it the greatest movie ever, it's pretty well above average for its type of film.

I assume he's a bit paranoid. Everyone in the film certainly seems to see him that way.

Cheesy, but pretty decent for a sci-fi alien film. I mean when was the last time Spielberg let us down? *cough, War Horse, Indiana Jones 4, cough, cough* ...

You know that Spielberg didn't direct Super 8, right?

*shocked inhale of breath* NO???? mini/jaw

Of course I know that. Abrams directed it.

Then...why did you mention him and his movies?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Mr. Spieberg was the producer.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

John Carter
Having just finished the book, it was fun to see it played out onscreen. It was a good adaptation for the most part, but I think it suffered from structural issues as a result of its transition to film. I also found myself wishing the movie would commit itself more to telling the story from John Carter's point of view, rather than trying to explain everything (incidentally, Film Crit Hulk had similar thoughts).

Not actually that bad, I was actually expecting worse.

The Three Musketeers
It was okay.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Silence of The Lambs

Very  good. I finished reading the book literaly hours before watching the film. And I have to say, I was impressed by both. The thing I really loved about the movie was the lack of any jump scares and other cheap thrills. I guess this is because the only "scary" movies i've seen before this were ones that relied soley on jump scares. The Silence of The Lambs instead uses character, atmosphere, and good sound design among other things to make it a really chilling movie.
