I agree with LASF why have a vote if we won't go with the majority?
Well, because about 50 people disagree with one of the dates. The more entries the more of a challenge it is. It's about 50 to 70 votes at the moment. That's over a hundred people that want to enter, so why not give them a chance to?
Planning to go with the majority vote. I'd note that a majority of the people voting for the January date can probably enter on the December date; they're just saying they prefer the January date. The actual number of people eliminated from competition by not using the January date would be quite a bit smaller.
Now in the process of locating a sponsor and contest runner! Since we don't have much time to organize it's possible we'll end up with a smallish prize such as a BiM T-shirt, but I am trying to see about something better than that.
To be clear: tentatively plan on THAC being held December 17/18, though we're still trying to get details sorted.
Now the only thing really left to do, is pick a theme for this year.

I'm pretty sure you would be able to choose the color of the shirt (if that is the prize).
To me it's more about the experience, taking-part, and making a film in less then 24 hours. If you win - then great! You've won over countless people and will gain a lot of respect for it. So prizes aside for me, 2 THACs sounds like a good idea with or without prizes.

One would think, but don't get your hopes up! Running low on blue shirts so it'd depend on one's shirt size, I'm afraid.
Yeah, forget prizes. Just knowing that you've beaten many brickfilmers and made them cry for hours is enough of a prize.
Hahaha ya when I win stuff I just feel great knowing I beat every one else.
I don't really care about the prizes ether. I just like the experience and Smeagol why don't you run the contest?
Yeah, I would rather enter and keep my hands out of the actual running if I can. That's what I did last year, although I didn't finish my entry in time. I will run the contest if I don't find a suitable alternative, though.
So you guys ARE doing a THAC9A and THAC9B?
No. For some of the reasoning behind the decision, see my last several posts in the thread.

No.
Seeing as how splitting this THAC was my idea, I kinda wish I had been told that a final decision had been made.
Just sayin'.

I posted a couple of responses in this very thread politely explaining why we weren't going to do two rounds, after discussing it with the staff. I don't think it's fair to expect more than that, considering your original proposal was posted in this thread, too.
I don't have much free time right now, it's been all I can do to read the suggestions posted here, discuss them with staff, and get a response together. All of this while trying to locate a sponsor and somebody to run the contest.
I wish people on the internet didn't feel so entitled to free services all the time. There's a pretty consistent hostility and lack of gratitude when you're doing the best you can that makes running a website like this one not fun.

I saw that post. I didn't make the connection that it was a decision, as opposed to you simply stating your opinion.
