Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I like Mcoov's idea too. Could work very nicely.

That sounds good to me too.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I'm new to this, but I'd like to enter. Mcoov's idea sounds great. I'd rather have it the 7th/8th of January, because by then I will have my Christmas animation finished.
Cheers!

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I love Mcoov's idea! Brilliant! Gives a chance to everyone!

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I have a feeling that if we use mcoov's idea, some people will claim that the other group got a "better" or "easier" theme than they did. It's definitely a good thought, but I'm not sure if it will work.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I chose the 7th and 8th because I will have all my new animation stuff from Christmas and I think it's a weekend and Im a night owl so I usually stay up almost all night and that will help with this contest since it's a 24 hour contest

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

Mcoov, you're a genious. I love that idea, we should probably go for it.
Though I have some questions (that aren't necessarily directed to you, but to whoever is going to run the contests): should there be two winners, one for A and one for B, or just one winner for both?
The problem is that it's being splitted in two parts means that we will probably have two different themes, mod elements and stuff. At that point they would be two different contests, it would be impossible to have just one winner, right?

(Well, depending from people's different point of view, this may be or may not be a problem)

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

So it would be like how THAC 5 a and b were done? Also, if you entered one why would you not be allowed to enter the other?

Considering you can also make two THACs within the same 24 hours (I think?), Brain Wave makes sense.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

This would be great, last time I couldn't enter because of my weekend job. And it could be an epic voting contest between THAC A and B winners.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

Two separate contests sounds appealing in theory, but realize that it would mean we have to find twice the prizes, or settle for each individual winner getting less than they would have gotten otherwise. I don't personally have any problem with the idea of less substantial prizes, but remain aware that it could be a possibility.

Of course, there's also the matter of finding people capable and willing to run the contests properly- potentially two organizers. I'll remain optimistic and suspect that someone will step up to the challenge regardless of what we decide to do, but given that we have yet to find an organizer for one contest, I don't think we should be overly ready to commit to finding two.

I don't mean to shut down the idea entirely. Really, I think it would be wonderful if we could make it happen. Just consider that holding two contests means doubling the organization, preparation, and total amount of judging required.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

The idea with a contest split in two is that the entries from both part A and part B are merged and judged together, with one overall winner. It would still require two organisers, though (unless someone's available on both dates).

This would make more sense, but it does bring up the issue someone mentioned earlier of judging films created for different themes on the same standards. My memory fails me at the moment, but wasn't this how THAC V was run? Mcoov's assertion that this was a different system was what lead me to think he meant to utilize separate judging.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

@Squash: I made the assertion that the reasons for splitting this THAC are different. However, I could be wrong, I wasn't around for THAC V. Also, I offered to pull the weight for THAC IX A.

@Hazzat: The issue with the themes arises.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

I don't recall anyone complaining in THAC 5. That said, barely anyone entered THAC 5A.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

Right. With this, I'm imagining a roughly 60/40 split, leaving more room for complaints. This has been brought up by both MPfist0, and by StudioL30. I don't see how it would be fair to combine the scores for what are essentially two seperate contests. If the themes were similar, then I think it could work, but that would mean that whoever runs THAC IX B, has to closely watch what happens during THAC IX A, and that would provide for less overall film diversity.

Re: THAC 9 - When? [CLOSED]

Perhaps people should be allowed to make films for both, and then they could choose the one they like more to enter the overall contest. For example, somebody could submit an entry for THAC 9 A, and a few weeks later, they could enter THAC 9 B. After that, they would choose the film they like better, and the other one would be cancelled/disqualified. I imagine this would be hard to organise on a large scale, but I think it would be most fair.
