Hull plating added along with gun turrets (anyone else ever thought of using the key piece as a gun barrel?) and 14 days of animation and cuing explosion marks and 30+ hours rendering:

Yeah, it's one of the drawbacks of Carrara's particle system, it's not flexible to certain things like having an explosion particle system generated where and when another particle dies or collides with something. What you're seeing is the re-spawn setting enabled for when a particle collides with something. Those are actually tiny bullets flying out. I mainly did it to enhance lighting. They'll be scaled down further in future renderings.
