Topic: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

I'm pretty new to BiM and BF, though I've been animating for a little while. I see that BF is pretty much dead, though people still post occasionally. It seems to me that many people were upset by the collapse of BF and the split. I'd really appreiate it if someone could explain to me why BF started falling apart, and why the split happened.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

TaaB happened.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

And what exactly is TaaB?

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

Well, I wasn't really around much back then, but from what I gather, TaaB is the name of the person that the site was sold to, stands for "Thick as a Brick". They started making lots of bad changes to the site, putting ads on it and stuff. I think the film directory got deleted, too. Heaps of people got annoyed, because the site wasn't fun anymore. So they broke off from the site, and ventured into new lands. To start a new word. A new community, where people were treated with honor, dignity and respect. This land was known... as I♡Brickfilming.com BricksInMotion.com!

Well at least I think that's what happened. Ask someone who was there.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

I agree. Nowadays brickfilms.com is a barren wasteland of spam and desolate posts. It's quite sad actually. It was good in the Golden Age but now in the Contemporary era it is unimportant.  mini/sweat

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

I wouldn't say it's unimportant, but yes, sad.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

The Golden Ages of brickfilming really have gone though. Not because people are not as good now, but it's sad not to see people like Nathan Wells and the Krick brothers no longer animating. That was the brickfilming I first knew anyway.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

And, there are too many FF101 imitators, meme-oriented brickfilms and much less story in brickfilming now.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

God I miss the days when I just lurked on Brickfilms, watching gold. mini/sad
And Brickman's right, the focus of brickfilming seems to have changed to animation, not story, which might be why they're no longer that entertaining. I can watch a horribly animated brickfilm with a genuinely entertaining story, but if it has smooth animation but a crappy story, then I couldn't care less. Old brickfilms were about telling stories, not making things look pretty.

Read this. It's illuminating.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

Huge, thanks, Jargon. That really helped! Were you a member of Brickfilms.com during the split/collapse? If so, how do you feel about the whole thing?

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

I was, but I wasn't active during the split, so I'm not really qualified to offer judgment on the situation.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

DON'T MENTION THE SPLIT!!

I was around during the split, but I was young and incredibly immature, so this is kinda like a kids view of a war - I'm aware of the events, but I dont have much understanding as to why they happened.

Basically, the then admin of Brickfilms.com employed an owner of a series of websites: the aptly named 'Thick as a Brick' (TaaB). However, after coating the site with ads, the admin (I cant spell his name) was unhappy, and created a new website called 'I Love Brickfilms'. TaaB, however, read about this by looking at the admins private messages, and sacked him - replacing him with one of her employees, so technically she now runs the site. Meanwhile, I Love Brickfilms, after some legal bullcrap, changed its name to 'Bricks In Motion' - since apparently TaaB holds a patent on the word 'Brickfilm' or some crap like that. Eventually, after around 6 months in 'The Refugee Camp', the new site design is released, the admin then resigned and gave the power to already prolific Smeagol, and that's pretty much how we got here today.

Oh, and Aled created a mod-free site called 'teh lolums', but it was closed after a short while due to a certain young Brickfilmer taking advantage of the 'no-moderation' clause. It was basically like the Cafe Corner, only with swearing, Rick Rolls, forum games, and very rude pictures/videos of women. Yeah, I miss it too....

Either somehow Brickfilms.com and Bricks In Motion.com will join together again (unlikely), Brickfilms will just die (I hope), or these sites will keep going their separate ways until the end of time (most likely)

EDIT: Bugger! You beat me to it!!

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

Wow. This is amazingly interesting! For someone who didn't know what the word "forum" was until August of 2010, I am really impressed by the way things are run around here, and now that I heard about Brickfilms.com, I am even more amazed by this story. I hope bricksinmotion.com just keeps getting better and better, with the resources section being complete, friendly community, ad-free, and well run by our amazing MODs (cheers- a toast to the mods, and to Smeagol!). I hope this site never sinks as low as I hear Brickfilms.com did.

I'm glad I chose BiM as my first (and only- for now) forum I've signed up to.

I was there but I didn't quite get the point so I stuck to Brickfilms.com for a while before joining ilovebrickfilming.com (the original name for BiM) and I gradually drifted away as the place became more and more desolate. I'm still a moderator there though! mini/bigsmile

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

The split was horrible and funny at the same time, I remember at one night when everybody was spamming Brickfilms.com to get back at TaaB. Good final times.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

Everyone was spamming at one time? Wow, that's hilarious. How does TaaB feel now? He's lost like all the members.
EDIT: saw the forums- there weren't any advertisements. And there are 7,000 members.

Re: Brickfilms/Bricks in Motion Split

I have a brickfilm idea! I'll call it...... The Day the Brickfilmers Rebeled! It's all about the gaining power and ambitions of TaaB and her fall from power an the rebels who began a new dynasty....... bricksinmotion.com! I was there during the split! It was a war! It was awesome!
