I want to see less realism and more cartoony animation, nothing makes me as sad as someone asking how they can make there animation 'more realistic' these are cartoons with LEGO we should have OVER THE TOP animation!  When people run to fast they should break through walls, walk on air and/or water. When people are punched they should fly across the room and the films should be VISUALLY FUN TO WATCH.

our movies are also lacking ghosts, mad science, musicals, space vikings, and super villains with plans to destroy the entire world.

Exactly. Most animation now is so boring to watch; it's like watching robots, because they are so "perfect." While I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to go about it in my next film, I am going to try as hard as I can to make it more cartoon-y.

For my films I try to add more realistic animation in more serious films but in comedy films I won't worry so much about perfect animation.

Good animation is not realistic animation.  You can have great looking animation without creating something dull or boring, unrealistic animation can achieve perfection.  I think that the perception that realism is the same as quality is poison.

I totally agree. We need a LEGO Musical.

As long as it's not Mamma Mia i'm not against it.

I was going to suggest this. I'm proud to say I've sung for 3 different brickfilms mini/mrgreen.

Hah.  I was just thinking to myself that my Geek Love Songs may be usable in a musical because they all deal with the same theme... pathetic geek in love.  If anyone wants to use the songs, by all means, you can. mini/bigsmile

Re: Things That I Would Like to See in Our Films

Oh, that would be awesome. Something like Mamma Mia! where all the songs are strung together to make a plot.

I like your thinking, sir.

Am I the only one who had to read that for at least 3 times?

Re: Things That I Would Like to See in Our Films

Nope, I read it three times, too.  But I do agree with a lot of the others in that we need more cartoon-y LEGO films that are visually enjoyable-- not to say that what we have now isn't pleasant.  Please dont' get me wrong.  lol

Some people here can't seem to tell a story without dialog.

In NickDurron's "The Tompa City Menace", the lack of proper dialog makes the film a lot more interesting, and in some respects a lot more clever.

Meh, to be honest, though, I don't think that film is a great example of storytelling either.

Re: Things That I Would Like to See in Our Films

I've pretty much given up on serious films.  I tried it once, it's just ludicrously hard to get someone to appreciate a serious Lego movie.

Now, I've showed a few people Grace, and they love it.  Most people say something along the lines of "Oh, bada**!" because it's a smooth fight scene with little Lego guys.  They tend only to pay attention during those fight scenes, though.  It's somewhat immature in our eyes, but that's what people want.

I like fight scenes!  mini/smile

However, it is hard to convey serious things given the four expressions that a minifig head has. mini/smile

One of the reasons I don't put faces on my stikfas, I try to imply their emotion by body language and voice.

I have to try that one day, having faceless minifigs... Heck, i can barely get them walking though.

You've  got that right. When I tell people I animate with lego, they think it is baby like.

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

Re: Things That I Would Like to See in Our Films

I notice that to

I have TQFTBD II uploaded in 2 parts on Youtube.

the first part has 2700 views and the second part has only like 570 views.

that means barely 1/4 of the people who watch the film see part 2
