NXTManiac's suggestion is similar to what I have in mind minus the part about quotes. I'm glad to get y'all's suggestions, a lot of them address things we've discussed and considered in discussions among the staff. We're also working through ideas in the staff forum.
Having a staff review reviews instead of reviewing the films would really just complicate the process. And it doesn't solve the problem that we're forced to review scores of uninteresting films that are impossible to write interesting reviews for. I don't want to add more reviewers because we've already accepted everybody who we felt was good enough to be on the panel. Sorry if you applied and didn't get in, but the fact is that there are a lot of young people here who have applied whose writing abilities just aren't up to a level I'd feel comfortable publishing officially as part of the directory.
