Hey, not to be a pain, but I was wondering that if after a couple months from our last submission, are we allowed to re-apply? I don't mean it to be: you say "yes" we can apply and I re-apply right away. I say that because I know the situation about how the review panel is going to stay small and "clean" I should put it...
I was just wondering about this for the future, if things start to change. I don't exactly plan on being in it, but I'd thought I'd give another go at it if I got the chance, though maybe in a few months when I get back into all this stuff. Thanks!

I believe we're allowed to re-apply every month or so.

Here's a sort of related question:
Does anybody know when the "edit" button for the credits in a film will be functional? Because a lot of my films I made with some of my friends who weren't' on BiM when I submitted it but then later I convinced them to join. SO I would like to change it so that they are under 'registered members' so it shows up on their profile, along with some other edits I would like to make. Just wondering when this will be open to everyone...

NXTManiac's suggestion is similar to what I have in mind minus the part about quotes. I'm glad to get y'all's suggestions, a lot of them address things we've discussed and considered in discussions among the staff. We're also working through ideas in the staff forum.

Having a staff review reviews instead of reviewing the films would really just complicate the process. And it doesn't solve the problem that we're forced to review scores of uninteresting films that are impossible to write interesting reviews for. I don't want to add more reviewers because we've already accepted everybody who we felt was good enough to be on the panel. Sorry if you applied and didn't get in, but the fact is that there are a lot of young people here who have applied whose writing abilities just aren't up to a level I'd feel comfortable publishing officially as part of the directory.

The Review Panel would be doing essentially the same thing to the reviews that they currently do to the films: checking that they live up to a standard. The frameworks would probably include:

Mostly correct English spelling and grammar (At least no silly 3rd Grader mistakes).[/*]

Reviewer isn't merely making things up.[/*]

The review is insightful and competent.[/*]
The last bullet is mostly up to the discretion of the Review Panel member/Filter.

Should a person wish to review a film, they would click a button next to "Directory Link" on the film's thread that would say "Review this Film.", and would be presented with a box, much like to one used to write posts here on the forums. Reviews published would not only be sent in for an analysis by the Review Panel, but would also be immediately posted on the film's thread. This would partly prevent people from submitting reviews that simply say "ZOMG BEST LEGGO MUVVY EVER!!1!".
Reviews might not be published should the film not be categorized as "Recommended".

Mcoov wins.

NXTManiac's 2nd.

I fail.

EDIT: Question however - if the review panel don't have enough time to review films, how will they have enough time to look over a load of users' reviews and pick the best? :/

Or how about this: Get the community to write the reviews, and the Review Panal either approves or rejects them. In this case, multiple reviews of the same film could be published, and some may show both the good and bad sides of a film.

What about THIS.

We could ditch the idea of having dedicated reviewers go over every single film in the submission queue. Instead, we use a community driven system, where we have ratings and stuff, but rather than having a small group of reviewers write reviews for the good films, we take user reviews from the forums and quote it where the regular review would be. Of course, many films don't get any good reviews in the forums, but it's an idea...

How about this:

1. Members submit reviews
2. If they are decent, the review panel will take them on for a 2 months trial
3. If they are consistent and offer well put together review, then they'll be accepted
4. After this, they have to keep up 1 or more reviews a week, unless they are away, in which case they'd inform either Smeagol or Noodle
5. So long as they do these things they can stay on the panel.

This therefore separates the good from the bad, whilst keeping the review panel running smoothly.

Thoughts?
