Re: The Photo Manipulation and Creation Thread
Both of those are pretty good, Yoder and Real Brick.
Real Brick, the gun sticking out of the CPU is pretty cool. I like how you did it.

I made this for Earth Day. What do you think?
Earth day image
The grey "earth" text looks like it was part of a different composition and then just overlayed on top, it doesn't blend in with the background very well.
Otherwise the individual elemsnts would look okay by themselves.
hmmph.
I'm going to agree with Ryley on this one, Yoder. The textures would work together if better blended, maybe bump map the text layer or tone the opacity down and apply scratches to the text. That might make it look more like the background.
This website is really cool and helpful for GIMP. The website has tons of tutorials.
I love the bubbles Unilego
I can't find any good 2x2 pictures Unilego. where did you get a pic of that brick at that angle?
You could always just use LDD. You rotate the camera for what angle you want, capture the brick, crop it, and then use it for your purposes.
Yeah, I used Lego Digital Designer to capture an image of a 2x2 brick. Press Ctrl+K to take a screenshot once you have the right angle. Remember, to center a piece, right-click on it to make it the pivot point of the camera. LDD automatically saves the image as a PNG and makes it have a transparent background. Then all you have to do is open gimp and select "Alpha to Selection." That's the secret!

Thanks.

There is a firearm potruding from the central processing unit?
I meant computer.
I've been working on another planet that may or may not become Earth. I have sections of water, and separate sections of land. I think it's going well.
Any critique?
I see Hudson Bay.
The clouds seem like they're part of the land. If you used the object mapping technique, shrink that layer a bit so as to give the cloud atmosphere some depth. Also, the clouds seem more like a fog, whereas on actual earth photos the clouds are very white and aren't clear. Try taking a bigger, much bigger, image and then giving it some spaces in between the clouds as you clone them on.
It's funny, I was going to say the same thing. The clouds need to be for in the atmosphere, not right on the land. I also noticed that some of the land/ocean shapes are a little too defined. For example, that ocean in the top right looks too much like a circle.
Thanks, I'll work on the clouds and the water. I'm not quite done with the atmosphere yet, so the clouds do look weird. he water was kind of hard to make and put on, so it seems funny. I noticed that from the early stages, but was hoping the clouds could make it look better.
Olol, cool Unilego. I like it
Michael, where did you find this planet tutorial? Link please
I made this a while ago using an extremely long and tedious tutorial. It required about ten layers and a downloadable script-fu. If you feel like wasting five hours on making a planet, go here where you will also be able to download the script. Explore the rest of the the site in the Gimp section, there are some very interesting tutorials.
