Re: The CGI Thread

That looks pretty nice, especially the wall textures.  The part where the studs are in focus admittedly looks a little less perfect; I think part of that is the heavy contrast from the top of the studs to the edges. Perhaps a bit of lighting in the shadows could help?

Re: The CGI Thread

That's fantastic. You've nailed the right level of reflectivity for the walls. The studs in shadow look a little too shiny, though. Nonetheless, if the studs just had the LEGO sign I would have been very nearly fooled.

Re: The CGI Thread

Very nice Bluescreener.  I've recently had an interest in practicing with CGI.  If I plan on making CGI LEGOs, what are the programs that I would need?  So far I've downloaded blender.  What else do I need to download?

Re: The CGI Thread

You also need to download LeoCAD and LDraw (You don't need LDraw, but it has a broader selection).

Re: The CGI Thread

All you really need is Blender, LeoCAD, and LDraw like Juggernaut Pictures said.

Re: The CGI Thread

Okay.  Thanks guys.

Re: The CGI Thread

Bluescreener, it might just be me, but I think the studs need to have bevels.

Re: The CGI Thread

It's not really an issue, but maybe a slight bevel. But I'd leave it because it's looks really amazing. I thought it was real

Re: The CGI Thread

They are beveled, but I could add more. The weird thing is, on the first version, the floor had the same material as the walls, but it looked...different. Now it has a different material, but it still looks weird. The walls I like. The floor... meh. And there's something weird with the shader on the far side of each stud.

Re: The CGI Thread

I thought it looked almost real. The walls look perfectly real, but the depth of focus is way too small and the studs could use a bit of work there.

Re: The CGI Thread

I think I liked the first version best. Do you have plans of adding a "LEGO" to the top of the studs? It would really seal the deal.

Attempt at CGI integration

Took a while to figure out the focal length for this Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (zoomed out, all autos set to manual).  These shots seem to work at 35mm, but there's another shot I'm still rendering where the closest I can get to a matching focal length was 44.4mm.  Strange.

Re: The CGI Thread

That looks pretty nice Lech! The second shot with the gears looks a bit odd though. The gears don't reflect the light the same way as the minifig does.

Anyone know where some good tutorials for brezier bones are? I'm trying to learn a bit more on animation now that I'm better at physics and all that jazz.

Re: The CGI Thread

The word "LEGO" seems a bit dark on the studs, but other than that it looks great!

Re: The CGI Thread

It looks...real...except that the studs seem a bit too dark and everything seems a bit too contrasted and black and white-ish.

But no, it's awesome.

Re: The CGI Thread

This particular set does raise a question to me of why it's CG?  It seems like it'd be a fairly simple set to just build.

Re: The CGI Thread

Really, bluescreener, that looks really good, except i think the studs should have a little bit more rounded edges, just slightly, it looks just a tad to precise, even lego doesn't make their studs that exact. (actually, i think they add the 'softer' edges on purpose)
