Re: Café Corner

I hear that Vimeo is generally considered to be more "professional" and superior amongst people working in the film industry, but in my personal experience I'm not all that fond of it.  I did make an account, but when I attempted to upload Loyalty (around 4 mins) it said it would take something like 16 hours, which I decided it wasn't really worth waiting for.  I also find YouTube generally more user-friendly and less complicated to navigate, and it takes usually less time for videos to load.

Thanks guys

Re: Café Corner

I've never had bugginess on Vimeo.

Not everyone wants to be mainstream.  Also, like the Gren Horn song from the 1980s goes, "you're in control".  If you wish, there's no reason a filmmaker can't post videos both to YouTube AND Vimeo.  Or add Dailymotion and other sites, too.  Some may desire a "more is merrier" approach to achieve greater exposure.

Re: Café Corner

Does anyone know a good way to make this door hinge? As far as I know, I only have one of the proper hinge bricks (as see on the right).

Re: Café Corner

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is the only hinge piece you can use for those type of doors, unfortunately.

Re: Café Corner

I have them in my collection but only in red white & yellow.

I'm afraid Mighty Wanderer is right, or at least as far as I know.

Does anyone know the exact number or name of that piece? I have one or two of those doors, but I've never used them cause I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to prop them up.

Yes, the door is 30223 Door 1 x 5 x 7 1/2 Stockade and the hinge is 3581 Brick, Modified 1 x 1 x 2 with Shutter Holder.

I am going to see about using some tricky building with hinges and some SNOT techniques to see if I can get the door to hinge without using the specific piece. This is the LEGO System, it has to be possible (I hope).

EDIT: I figured it out... at least one way to do it. I was originally trying to make it hinge without doing anything to the front of the door (leaving it as it originally looked). However, adding the hinges on the back only allowed the door to open in, and I didn't want that. So, I put the hinges on the front, and it works well:

I had to add these black bricks to the back of the door (which should be removed if the door is open) to prevent being able to see through the gaps in the sides of the doors.

Re: Café Corner

Currently, I'm directing my first live action short film. So pumped. Excited with the footage I have so far. It is a real learning experience, directing actors, setting up shots, etc. And I get to play with some great equipment from school. Any tips from anyone?

Re: Café Corner

Are you controlling how the shots look, like camera angles and lighting? If so, be sure to always keep cinematography in mind. The rule of thirds, 180 degree rule, use proper lighting techniques (like rim lighting and the 3-point lighting technique). Doing a little research on cinematography can go a long way.

Re: Café Corner

Yeah. This is the full project in which I storyboarded. I control the shots and angles. Rule of thirds, 180 degree rule, I  practed all of that during my photography unit in my communications class.  I spent a good chuck of time looking into cinematography, deciding the look I was going for. I did a few tests before filming started. Thanks.

Re: Café Corner

Sorry for asking a ton of off topic questions, but how do you put an Image in to a Signature?

I do not brickfilm anymore, but you can see my live action stuff here.

Re: Café Corner

First, you have to upload an image to an image sharing site. Imgur, for example, is great because you do not need an account. You then need to copy the link and use BBCode to insert it into your signature. For example: [img]link[/img]

Re: Café Corner

Shooting a short film for one of my first year uni assessments from tomorrow through Sunday. It's exciting, I haven't done any live-action in a while, and though we got off to a shaky start (people not turning up to meetings) I've got a pretty good group. My main role is DoP but I've been doing lots of other smaller jobs too, and so far pre-production's gone smoothly. The only issues have been that we have to use uni equipment (we can't bring in our own) and we have to shoot on-campus, which is a particular shame when York is such a lovely city.

Weirdly, I had nothing to do with the story or script, but the director/writer ended up going for something about a kid wanting superpowers. Funny how these things come around (it's not like I have any shortage of suitable props lol) though it would also have been nice to do a different genre when all of my brickfilm projects at the moment are about superheroes.

EDIT: Also Rioforce I just saw your solution to that hinge issue, that's actually super-creative. Nice work mate.

Re: Café Corner

Jampot, Sweet, let us know how it turns out!
Will you be able to share it with us once it's done?

In a similar vein, I directed/filmed/edited one live-action film this semester, but it pretty much failed on every level. Partly because I got no help from my team and had no budget or time, and partly because it was my first live-action project and I didn't know what I was doing. But it was still fun, and taught me a lot of valuable lessons for future projects.

Also, last semester a teacher here asked if I would consider doing a small stop-motion project for him. It got put off for a while, but I filmed it over spring break, and now there's a good chance it'll get shown at the annual graduation banquet. So far most everybody that's seen it loves it, so hopefully it'll go over well.

Re: Café Corner

Jampot, by Uni, that means university?  Keeo us posted on your project!

Re: Café Corner

@HOO indeed it does, it's just a hassle writing 'university' every time.

@Pritchard hopefully one of the members of my group, if not I, will upload the final film to somewhere like YouTube, though we haven't even discussed it as yet. But I would like to be able to share it with you all.
