Funmi, glad you got everything back.  But also be careful!  I wouldn't talk about "Shooting" a scene while in school... just in case!  mini/wink

Re: Café Corner

In my Junior High school, a kid made an L with his forefinger and thumb, and positioned it so it looked like he was cocking a gun. He aimed it at the school, and later got suspended.

But, it's totally okay for kids to openly talk about guns in school (in the context of deer hunting and sport). I mean, I know they shouldn't be able to get into trouble for that, but school administrations have been going to extremes ever since Sandy Hook.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Café Corner

Heard the rumours a while ago, but I'm very glad now that it's been properly announced. Rip Hunter is an awesome-yet-overlooked part of DC canon, and I hope the show brings Booster Gold and Skeets into the fold too.

Also, the UK election happened and it was a thing. Most of the people I've spoken to don't seem all too happy with the result (Conservatives got in, most of the people I know voted Labour I think) but at least UKIP didn't get in (for anyone outside the UK, some of UKIP's policies are quite racist, like abolishing laws that prohibit racial discrimination in the employment process).

But anyway, I've now voted for the first time, and whether I'm happy with the result or not, the fact I've had the opportunity to have my say in how the country is run feels monumentous.

Re: Café Corner

BBC news has been splish-splashed with election results, obviously. Honestly I'm quite annoyed about how much coverage the election got on Friday, but it was always going to get that coverage. Friday was the 70th Anniversary of VE Day, a historical day for all of Europe, and I wasn't too pleased that it got little-to-no coverage on BBC News, as I'm more interested in VE Day than the election. Just my opinion.

I agree, it does feel wrong that VE Day didn't get as much coverage.

Re: Café Corner

It sucks that VE day happened to drop the same day as the election considering how both are major, news-dominating events in their own rights.

This all being said, I find it odd that everyone's condemning Russia celebrating VE day - saying how it's an attempt to sir hostility towards the west, yet of course it's a noble sign of respect when we do it.

Re: Café Corner

The election result was a surprise, wasn't it? I think the whole nation gasped in unison when Dimbleby read out the exit poll.

The VE Day thing was a shame, and seems rather bad planning. With the Fixed Term governments, the 75th, 80th, 90th and so on VE Days will be overshadowed by general elections. Still, it got a nice amount of coverage today.

Russia sacrificed more to win WW2 than the USA or the UK did, they can celebrate it how they want, within reason I guess.

Re: Café Corner

Sorry about VE day over there.  It is an important day that should never be forgotten.  To your comfort, the UK elections and VE day got about equal coverage in the news over here in the United States, with the election getting the lead because it was current.  But VE day was featured on many "educational" channels' documentaries.

I also don't see the fuss about Russia celebrating the day, because they were as much a part of it as any other Allied nation, even if Russia's motives were different (Russia was very similar politically to Nazi Germany, the main dispute was who should be in charge), Russia and the other Allies still fought on the same side and the day is significant to us all.

Claire from Jurassic World set: This is a really nice minifigure.  I saw the Claire from the set with the vet truck.  It's a great outfit, and I may have to find a Claire minifigure on Bricklink for brickfilming.

Posts like these really don't warrant their own topic. This would be much better suited for Cafe Corner.

Cool thing, Nathan.  It seemed the right place at the time.  Are there any new minifigures that other people like?

Re: Café Corner

The CBS Supergirl first look is out.

I was wondering how they'd be handling it when it was announced. While some of it seems a bit kack (why did Kara have to be found by a wealthy family? why does she have to have a decent job?) I'm actually really glad this has got a series order: it's a show about a female superhero who's physically more powerful than any male lead of any kind currently on TV (and, excepting Man of Steel, cinema too), and it's primarily demographic is also female. This is something that's been desparately lacking for ages now, and whether it ends up being good or not, I'm glad CBS tried.

It's probably too much to hope for a Xena/Buffy for the current geneeration, but I hope this has some impact. I'm glad that its primary demographic is female. TV's not been quite as bad as film in superhero gender ratios but it still hasn't been great. The last episode of Flash reminded me just how much of a sausage fest the CWverse is. Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter are better (the best characters in both shows are women) but Supergirl's the first to have a female lead in a really physically powerful role as well as apparently be from a female perspective.

I'm liking alot of the new City minifigures this year! The new designs and variety between them is pretty neat!
Also the new Han Solo from the upcoming 'Shuttle Tydirium' set is a minifigure I would like to own!

Re: Café Corner

I liked the first look. To bad Smallville didn't have those effects. Still impressed with how far TV special effects have improved. Glad there is a female superhero on TV aside the guys from the CW. I hope they do end up having a crossover. Producers said it was possible. They mentioned superman in this. Wonder if he will make an appearance.

HOO, I want pretty much all of the Ultra Agents minifigures, particularly the villains. Drillex, Infearno and Tremor especially.

I hope not, or at least not beyond an end-of-series cameo (maybe he talks to Supergirl on-screen for the first time, tells her he approves or something hokey - this could even be a non-canon appearance from Henry Cavill if WB and their TV minions so wished it). It's not that I don't love Superman, because I do (one of the few people who genuinely likes Superman, apparently) but it's ground that's been trodden multiple times. You brought up Smallville - with the exception of season seven onwards, this is my favourite media portrayal of Superman, and only one of three live-action appearances within the last decade (Superman Returns and Man of Steel being the other two). I think it's time some other characters got the limelight, and let's face it: the CW's done a great job of building their own 'Justice League' without including any of the sacred trinity.

So if Superman does appear, I so hope it's only the tiniest of tiny appearances. For an example of what I mean, watch the first episode of the cartoon Krypto the Superdog; a fairly lame example, I know, but it deftly and concisely introduces Superman without feeling the need to expand his role beyond a cameo.

Another CWVerse tv series. Nice to see heroes and villians work together to stop threats. Seeing Hawkgirl on Tv will be interesting, although we see her next week on the flash. Love that Sara and Captain Cold are main characters as the actors who play them are quite talented. The mix of darkness from Arrow and the lighted Flash merge well together.

Re: Café Corner

Probably late to the party, but I've just played Portal and Portal 2, and I'm absolutely loving it.  I've never been a particularly huge fan of puzzle games, but I love the tests and the creative ways you have to overcome them.  Even things that might at first glance seem to make gameplay less challenging and reduce the core mechanic of the Portal Gun (such as the gels and Aerial Faith Plates) actually make the game even more fun and encourage more creative use of portals.  That, and the writing is hilarious.  GLaDOS is probably my new favourite villain.

The new Han Solo minifig looks remarkably like Mal Reynolds from Firefly, in my opinion.

Speaking of minifigs and Portal:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/leg … xpansions/

You might have already heard, but we'll be getting Portal 2 and Doctor Who packs for LEGO Dimensions.  I'm super excited that we're getting LEGO renditions of both of these.  The design of the Portal Gun (and Sonic Screwdriver) looks fantastic, although the turret and Companion Cube look a bit off, in my opinion (a grey LEGO Games dice with the printed tiles would make for a much better-looking Companion Cube, in particular).  I don't like the design of the Doctor, though, especially since his suit here is dark blue, when it's obviously black in the show.

That said, I'm not really sold on the whole "Dimensions" thing itself; it seems kind of like a cheap cash grab.  Everything we've seen of it so far stems from a licensed or pre-existing theme.  It's as if LEGO is having a "yeah let's just dump a bunch of cute minifig versions of licensed characters here and wait for nerds to throw their money at us" attitude here.  (Did none of the developers watch The LEGO Movie?)  Coming to think of it, it's a bit odd that we're getting LEGO Portal now of all times, especially considering the several rejected Portal ideas on CUUSOO/Ideas.  In any case I'd much prefer seeing standard sets of these, instead of video-game tie-ins.  I have a feeling that LEGO will jack up the price just because of the extra online content, making the minfigs and suchlike ridiculously expensive on the aftermarket and not really worth it for those who aren't especially interested in the game.

Still, I suppose an official Portal set means there's a slight chance we might get LEGO Half-Life or Team Fortress 2 in the future, although it's still highly unlikely.

Re: Café Corner

I'm like you, as well.
I'm not overly thrilled about Dimensions to say the least. Its too license heavy, with little of TLG's own themes in it. I am pleased with the inclusion of Doctor Who however, but that was nearly expected, what with all the rumours that we are getting a Doctor Who set very soon. The fact that Portal's Chell is in it, with a new Portal mold does strike me that we may be seeing some sort of Portal-related-set in the near future. Now that, has me interested.
