Like what? The old xbox megasaurus controller was the biggest and ugliest controller ever when it came out.

The image there makes it seem much smaller than what it is. Pull out a ruler and measuer 27cm - It's absurd how big it is.

Edit: I'm also curious as to how they're going to approach online functionality. If they're as stubborn about it as they've been in the past.

Because I personally think the PS3 is better.

Positive impressions of the controller.

It's been confirmed Nintendo is ditching the friend code system.

There's still a whole year for Nintendo to tweak and perfect things. mini/smile

Edit: I just realized something amazing. Imagine a Fallout game on the WiiU... The controller is your Pipboy. mini/eek

HECK. YES.

They won't be able to make any significant changes from now until release, and they definitely won't 6 months out from release, unless they wanted to piss off and screw the developers working on launch titles.

Okay, yeah that would be cool. Though considering how they approached the PS3, I wouldn't be so sure. The audience the Wii U is going after isn't really the same audience that is into Fallout and the Elder Scrolls, and the Wii U won't have the kind of user base the 360 and PS3 have, and even in two or three years, the PS3 and 360 will still have way more users at about 50 and 55 million each respectively. They were reluctant to go onto the PS3 because they knew it wouldn't attract the same kind of sales that it would get on the 360 and PC.

And I thought it was interesting that Nintendo's share price has dropped significantly (the lowest in several years) since the announcement of the Wii U. To be honest, that seems a little concerning since there were significant boosts when the 3DS and Wii were announced. Their stock also plummeted when they announced the extremely poor 3DS sales. Hopefully they ignore all that, since it seems like Nintendo's main focus for the last few years has been making sure their investors are as happy as possible.

I want this Wii U. And I want it now. I also want that PSVita thing, it looks pretty cool.

I wasn't talking about major interior changes, mostly just software. If the Wii U is going to have more games like Killer Freaks from Outerspace coming, it could have a chance of attracting more mature gamers to the platform. Wii had a small handful of that type of mature games, like Madworld and Manhunt 2, but it just wasn't enough. We'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of mature games, I hope Rockstar Games gets on board with the Wii U. They probably will eventually. Now that the Wii U is capable of even more things graphically, maybe they'll start doing multi-platform games again. Their last games that were on all 3 consoles was Bully: Scholarship Edition and Manhunt 2, and those were some of their first 'next-generation' games.

It's all a matter if developers are going to be willing to put time into developing for the Wii U. Developers are either going to have to stop being lazy, or hire studios to handle Wii U versions of their games.

I'm just waiting to see how Microsoft does in copying Nintendo this time. Sony is probably gonna do more stuff with PSVita/PS3 connectivity, but I doubt it'd be as practical as the Wii U, obviously. Sony tried that before with the regular PSP, and it didn't work out too well.

I think Microsoft is trying to focus on Kinect , which I think may be a step in the wrong direction. Thankfully it seems like Sony have already conceded the failure of Move, and they are trying to focus on the Vita. I think the PS3/Vita intergration will work much better than the PSP/PS3 stuff, considering the PS3 didn't even exist as a product when the PSP was being developed, and everything between them was installed through firmware retrospectively, which obviously limited the extent to which things could be transferred. And the whole PSP system had been comprimised since it was so easy to hack and mod them, which also created problems in transferring data and account info.

Hopefully the PS Vita will be a lot better with interacting with the PS3. There was some game called Rune or Tomb or something like that, which already works with the PS3 to the extent at which you can play the game on your ps3, save it to the cloud, and then pick up your vita and continue playing from exactly where you left off. Like all the controls and stuff are exactly the same, which is awesome.

I'm also wondering how devs are going to approach doing games for the PS3/Wii U/360. It seems like the 360 could very well be the console that starts to become alienated by the 3rd party devs, much like the Wii was - since the Kinect thing is a lot different to what Sony and Nintendo are doing. The worst situation for Nintendo would be if devs just made games with no interaction with with Vita/Kinect/Wii U touchscreen, since that would mean you have six and half inches of nothing on your controller.

And Nintendo plan on supporting the old Wii controllers (wiimote, balance board, classic controller, etc), and I'm hoping those are only going to be for backwards compatibility with the old Wii games, since segmenting the market is the last thing you want to do and would really turn away devs from thinking about using the Wii U controller in any way that was crucial to the gameplay, which would really limit its potential.

I've also heard conflicting things about how the Wii U controller is going to be used, like some reports are saying it will be an accessory, adding more input options to the game, but others are saying it can work as a wireless display unit, like you can turn off the TV and have the game stream to your controller. But then what happens to the functionality the controller offered when using the TV? Did the controller add any gameplay mechanics when using the TV, or was it just a blank screen while using the TV?

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

One big thing I'm hoping Nintendo will fix is their online system. Their current online system is quite sucky. Even playing Mario Kart online (which is the best online for Wii I've played) can be annoying at times. I hope they will encorporate major changes to their network. I would play my Wii more often, but I PC game more often, mainly because PC online gaming kicks everyone else's ass, (I mean, the internet was made for computers, so gaming online should be easiest with PC). Also, minecraft isn't for the Wii.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Been pretty productive in the game Garry's Mod lately. After a good amount of weeks with Minecraft, it feels good to get back and building.

Finally made a proper car. I coded some E2 and mounted a hydralic system (with a weight of 100 so the hydralics are stiff) and got it controlled with WASD. It's pretty neat.
