I was pretty excited (and skeptical) for the possibilities of the WiiU but a couple things have made me lose interest almost entirely:
1. Only one "new controller" can be connected at a time. They're working on getting two connected, but that may not happen. So basically, all the potential for using the controller's screen during regular gameplay is limited to the single player experience. It would be wise to hold onto all your regular Wii controllers, maybe even Gamecube controllers.
Also this makes me question why they demoed Madden on the WiiU, showing how you can select plays on the controller screen. What's the point of that, outside of maybe a little bit more convenience? Wouldn't the best purpose for that be that ability to hide what plays you select from your competitors?
2. The screen isn't capacitive. I personally find this inexcusable, mainly because I've heard reports that the screen doesn't register fingers very accurately.
3. It's more powerful than what Sony and Microsoft has, but for how long? When the PS4 and next Xbox are released, I fear that the WiiU may fall into the situation the current Wii is in, receiving horrible ports and being unable to create the same games found on other systems. I don't think anyone knows how powerful it is, but the general consensus is that it doesn't have a big advantage over the PS3 and 360.
4. The circle pads. This may be nitpicky but the company that pioneered the joystick is abandoning it for something worse, even thought it may look more attractive. If it's anything near the circle pad on the 3DS they'll be disappointing.
5. This is purely personal, but Nintendo games generally fail to interest me nowadays. I was never a big Mario guy, Twilight Princess was a disappointment, Metroid isn't the same as it used to be, and Star Fox and F-Zero are nowhere to be seen on home consoles.
Speaking of Mario, the Mario 3DS game reminds me of the old Crash Bandicoot games.
As a side note, apparently one of the DICE guys tweeted that they don't have a dev kit for the WiiU, and many of them weren't aware that Nintendo had a new console until today. I haven't seen the tweet, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was true because for some of the games they showed they used footage from the 360 or PS3 version of the game.
Anyway, the PSVita is the most interesting thing shown at the show, to me, anyway. The price is fantastic, the games look great and play great, and it has a lot of potential. LittleBigPlanet looks amazing.
Oh, and Rayman looks like tons of fun.
