Topic: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

Hey all,

A while back I posted my work-in-progress film. As I continue to work on the project, adding parts and refining already finished sections, I thought I would post a few of the work-in-progress shots. Most of these are old, so if you've followed the project elsewhere you'll likely have already seen some of these.

All done in CG (:( ) of course...and I should have some new ones up soon.

Re: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

I like how detailed the sets are, but the bad part is that it dosen't look very realistic, it looks a bit too soft and smooth.

Oh, pffft.

BG, don't be a grammar cop.
James, the second render is one of the coolest CG Lego shots I've ever seen. The arch in the third one is also really snazzy. I can't wait to see those in a film! mini/smile

I'm loving the art deco vibe in the third frame.

Very true. Though I will point out that achieving realistic CG bricks is a hard task under the best of circumstances. And when you factor in the amount of bricks I'm rendering in these shots combined with the time it takes to render... its a tall task. But certainly room for improvement.

Re: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

how long did the second one take to make
Are importing /3ds files from leocad and using blender or what

Re: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

NXT, that's part of who I am. I can't stand bad grammar.

James, yes, it is incredibly hard to make it look realistic. The only other flaw that I can find in them besides the fact that the texturing was slightly off is that in the third one the first few buildings look realistic, but then it looks like the rest are copy and paste. This is partially because it just starts a sudden mist instead of the mist being a gradual thing.

I love the second picture the most though; it's truly amazing.

BGanimations, your pet peeves don't give you leeway to act like a jerk. I've held my tongue for a long time, but NXT is right.

Sorry, I'll try to still my annoyance of it in the future. My, your tounge must be choking you by now if you've held your tounge all that time.

It doesn't give you the right to be a smart a$$ either.

I wasn't really tring to be one. I was just saying that he must have had to put up with it for a long time.

Damn, I forgot to put the '' mini/tongue '' smiley in that post. My bad.

Re: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

No problem. mini/smile

Anyways, back to the origional thread purpose; I found a tiny detail that looks just a bit off in the second picture. It dosen't blur the farther away it goes from the camera. Even the best camera that is used in real movies or something along the lines eventually blurs over such a long distance.

Yeah, that's my job.  And only I can be the jerk and smartass around here and don't none of you forget that mini/tongue.

Were the old renders you posted before or after the Flame of the Jedi render?  Because in FotJ, the renders look more realistic in terms of lighting and shadow.

And skimming through your Ramble vlog, I think along with simplifying the pieces, you should hollow out the model to reduce the file size.  Kind of pointless to have support pieces inside a model when you're never going to see it in the final rendering.  Same goes with some of the establishing shots like Coruscant where you're not going see the backside of these models.

Re: Fall From Grace - WIP Shots

mini/smile Love the second frame, altough I doubt it if those bricks in the background will be rendered nicely (flickering lines and stuff). Using some camera depth of field should do the trick
