Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I would say "Go with the darker colour." to give it more of an "original atmosphere", if that makes any sense. But, now that I understand why you want to change it to bright blue, I say "Go on ahead with the change."

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

@Squid:  Well, I'd prefer dark normally.  There's already a bright blue bit on Garry's shirt, and, as you mentioned, they look better for jeans.  However, the bright blue has actually grown on me a fair bit, and I like the way it complements the waterfall.  I guess it depends on what effect you're going for.  (Or maybe I'm just biased since I don't like light blue jeans much--I've always preferred them in dark blue.)  Sorry if this isn't very helpful...

Jampot, where did you get the head for the hired thief? Also, Squid, I say go with the bright blue pants, I like your idea of complementing the colors on the set.

It comes from the Motorcycle Mechanic, which I ended up with 3 or 4 of.

Jampot, those figures are really cool. I love the middle spacefig in the last image, he looks very creepy.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Threw together part of a Weeping Angel today - I don't have any good hair yet, but I mostly wanted to see if I could come up with some good-looking wings.

Bumpity-bumpity bump.

Here's the Pythian Oracle, in all her super-crazied glory.

I love that scribble face piece, it's hilarious.

EDIT: Here are a bunch more new figs. No fantasy or sci-fi this time.

From left: pizza delivery boy, random girl, mailman, and two X-Treme stuntmen.

HERO FORM: ACTIVATE! Powers?

I love the goldiness (gold is one of my fave colours), and did you paint the hair? Where did the cape come from? If it's purist and not self-made, then I'm guessing Chima?

I painted the hair with brown marker paint since that hairpiece doesn't come in brown, which is my hair color. The cape was made by me with black fabric and starch.

I am not sure what my capabilities are completely. They most likely include visual spatial construct building like the green lantern, but with somewhat different physics and maybe more idk yet.

I like the Greek temple and the Oracle overall, but I don't really get why she has the scribble face.  Is it just to show she's really insane?

The rest look pretty good as well (although I think the X-Treme stuntmen should have hips that match the colours of their sleeves).  I especially like the ones in the last pic.  Will they be appearing in a brickfilm?

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Not meaning to change the discussion, but what do you think of my figure above being my profile character? Should I make him like a side character next to my version of me as "Rodin's Thinker" shown below or my main "form" to replace the "Thinker"?

Sorry for turning this thread into an abstract art, hippie doohicky thread mini/lol  , but I'm just curious of your thoughts.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Photoshop the fig into the Thinker pose. It's possible, I've seen it done before, and it should prove interesting and memorable IMO.

May I see an example?

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Sorry, can't remember where I saw it, and I don't have time right now to make one myself. However, off the top of my head, here are a few thoughts:

  • Get the head, torso (without arms) and legs into the Thinker pose.

  • Take two photos of each arm. For the left arm, have one photo from the side (for the upper arm of the image) and one of it lying across, as it would on a lap (for the lower arm on the image). For the right arm, have it at the same angle (so the inner side) and you'll only need one photo.

  • Separate the bits of the left arm you need: the upper arm from the first photo and the lower arm from the second photo, then try and blend them together.

  • Similar premise for the right arm, but you just need to make it look like its bent (see the Thinker pose).

It's kinda' hard to describe, but it should be easy enough in practice. Hope this helps!

EDIT: Some new minifigs for y'all.

First off, some Wild West figs. The one on the far right is a woman in disguise, so that she can be a deputy.

Next are the staff of the Godmax prison, from a while ago. There's Medusa, two Cyclops henchmen, two robo-wardens and one border patrol droid. I'm not making this brickfilm but I may still upload characters every now and then.

From left: Ascanius, leader of the Illyrion elves, the young hero Elpenor, and an unnamed elf-maid. You can see Ascanius' gryphon here: http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/po … 8/#p318688. They're going to be for my film for the 2015 Showcase (films that aren't entered into the contest, but are made as part of it), assuming I can get some of my smaller brickfilms planned out pretty soon.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I like the head you used for Medusa, Jampot, the sunglasses idea is pretty neat. mini/sunnies mini/XD

Anyway, which hairpiece is better for an insane, knife-wielding, yet well-spoken, and rather polite assassin?

I originally thought the second one, but the first has really grown (heh heh) on me in the mean time.  Thoughts?

Also, here is a picture of several characters (including the one above) that will appear in my upcoming film that I intend to animate in the summer.  I'm still writing the script, though, so I might add/remove/change around a few of these.

All of these characters have something in common (beyond the fact they're in the same film, obviously).
