I do not think shorts like this deserve a place in the directory when longer movies don't get in.

Would you still be arguing this point if the films in question were a Pixar short and Mac & Me? Longer running time does not equal better film.
.

Bottom line is this movie sucked. It had probably 5 seconds of actual animation and it wasn't funny.

Not that I'm unsatisfied with your treatment of my film (well, I am unsatisfied but that's beside the point), but I am wondering why I haven't been notified in any way about this...

Brian, as opposed to your view on dictionary series getting preferential treatment, I'd say that length simply isn't part of the judging process. A well-made film (Maladroit) got in because it has good technical aspects and stuff like that, and a pretty bad film (like Boba Fett) didn't get in because it has bad technical aspects and stuff like that. Length doesn't seem to be of the matter in the judging process, instead of tje quantity the reviewers judged the films based on their quality.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

Well, I do not agree that Maladoit was made better than Boba Fett. Boba Fett had sound. Boba Fett had significant animation. It is not a technical achievement to have a lego figure barely walk forward...

At this point I am dropping this, there is nothing more I can say.

It wasn't rejected, it just didn't make the cut to be recommended.  Again, if anybody wants to see 'dictionary' series movies, it's easy to search "dictionary" in the search bar, and that will bring up your film as one of the results.  Currently we're not notifying, but I'd like to have this changed (obviously it's not directly in my control) since some users are not finding out when their films are processed.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

just a quick blip: During the grading do you only take technical aspects into consideration, or is entertainment at all a factor? Because, as said, Boba Fett, and several other rejects have more action and enjoyment qualities than many of the "recommended".

Personally, I would "recommend" a good list of the rejects to a friend. It seems you're being a lot harsher than the Brickfilms old standards.

Technical quality is not the only consideration for acceptance.  If I enjoy a film submitted, or think it's highly likely that most people would enjoy it, I'll make it public, regardless of technical quality.  The opposite is also true, for example Sam and Stinky Get a Kitchen is of relatively high technical quality, but (sorry, Hazzat) I didn't enjoy it at all and couldn't find a reason to recommend it.  I specifically posted about that film in the review panel forum because it was so borderline for me, I couldn't really write a review recommending it since I didn't like it, but I made it clear that if anybody on the panel liked it they're free to review it and make it public.  If a film is a classic for some reason it'll probably be admitted, though generally we are aiming for films that most users would enjoy, not films that only a handful of people like due to an inside joke.  If somebody visits the site, clicks the first film on the list, watches it, and is bored out of his or her mind, it doesn't make a good impression about the site as a whole and this person may not come back.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

Why is it that the release date for browsing films is different than the one on the page of the film?

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

I believe that is on the to-fix list.  It looks like the one displaying on the page is the date the film was accepted rather than the date the user stated that the film was made, in the submission form.

how long does it take to have a film rated?

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

Everybody here submitted most of the films they've ever made, it's going to take us more than a week to process all of them.  Bear with us over the next couple months while we catch up with the onslaught of submissions.

That said, any user can rate a film that hasn't been processed yet, from its discussion thread.

On brickfilms there was a problem with a bunch of friends oking eachothers movies or whatever else was a "dictionary" movie..

Though more made it in, I saw quite a few rejected when I was on the panel.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

The name comes from your 'Real name' in your profile.  So you should be able to edit this yourself.

If you select more than 3 genres the release line will be pushed out of the box.

I'm not getting this.  What is your screen resolution?

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

On 'Paradise Hills?'  It still displays fine for me.  I know there were a couple issues initially so maybe you need to refresh or something.  Otherwise it could be an issue of text being magnified, I'm not sure what else would cause this.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

For me it actually looks fine at 1024 x 768, we were keeping that resolution in mind as the minimum.  But I'll try to fix this.

edit: OK, should be fixed now.  Unless you have a screen resolution lower than 1024 x 768, at which point you really should consider upping your screen resolution.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

There is eleven pages of this now, so forgive me if this has been asked before.

Is there a way in the film directory to click on a creators name and see all the films they have done ?

Cheers Si.

What about people who don't fullscreen every window?
