Please, don't. You've put a lot of work into this video, and it'd be a great shame if it got picked up/muted/taken down on copyright grounds. I'd love to use movie soundtracks in my brickfilms too, but I learned the hard ways years ago, on my previous account, that using any copyrighted audio or visual material is bad.

It's funny that you can make a Star Wars fanfilm of any kind, enter it into film festivals and make money off it on YouTube, but not if you use the music.

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

But I've done videos before where I used Star Wars music and I never had a problem. All that happened was that I had to accept the 3rd party claim and that was it.

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

I would do your own cover on it, or commission someone else to do it. It shouldn't get picked up for that.

Doesn't matter. It's like any risk: 99 times things go smoothly, but hell can break loose on the 100th. I did a Bionicle series once that was five parts and used music from The Matrix Trilogy, Star Wars and the actual Bionicle movies. Part 1 got a 3rd party claim, part 2 was left alone, parts 3 and 4 were muted, and part 5 got a 3rd party claim. See what I mean?

Besides, the more 3rd party claims you get, I think you can run the risk of getting one of those red marks on your account.

That. There are plenty of remixes out there; I'm sure someone on YouTube will let you use theirs as long as you properly credit them for it.

Trust me, using copyrighted music is a mess. If you start getting into the habit of not using copyrighted material, it'll make your life simpler in the long run. I never look back.

I hope you don't feel like I'm putting a downer on your film. I'm actually really quite interested to see the end product; you've got a lot of interesting frames so far, from what you've put here and in other threads.

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

I think its better to make your own cover. Why? Well, you are being creative in the fact that you can play a piece from a famous film series, using minamal equipment.

Oooh, perfect lighting.
Love the use of several colors on the holocron, and the holder looks nice too.

How does this look?

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

I know you've heard this before, but textures. Textures will help a lot. At the moment, the buildings look like they're made of styrofoam. The windows also need to at least be a different colour, if not a different material.

Also, for a city scene like this, there are some things you'll want to add: optical effects, smog around the cars, smoke coming from the cars, and copious amounts of lens flare. That last one was a joke, btw. Only add lens flare if you're J.J. Abrams or Zack Snyder. Try looking up tutorials on YouTube on how to add all those things - start by looking for how to integrate CG elements into live-action footage, as it uses a lot of the same principles.

Hope this helps!

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

Ok. Thanks, this is not final so I thought I'd get some thoughts on it.  mini/smile What's a good texture?

I suggest you set up a test file with only one or two bricks (makes rendering go quicker), and then play around with the materials and textures until you find something relatively realistic. Then, you can use those settings as a basis for your actual scene. Also, here's a nice tutorial using Blender 2.48a. You could use the settings here to help figure out a similar result in cycles.

Also, I find that frame to be very washed out (maybe because of having ambient occlusion too high?). And for the color of the scene, I'd suggest something a touch darker and more blue, with lighting to match the background sky.

And my final thought on the frame is that the vehicles are too uniform and colorful. Hope this helps a little. mini/smile

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

Well now I'm using an older version of blender and it is working better with the leocad bricks. When I used 2.70 and beveled the bricks they would get all messed up, but using 2.49 they are looking a whole lot better. I'll try to post a pic of what I have soon.

I'm really sad that this didn't turn out.

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

Well that sucks. The frames looked really cool, I'm sad to hear they're all gone.

Yep

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

Danget, I was looking forward to this. Well, best of luck with your old republic video, and maybe even recovering those files somehow. mini/smile

Re: Jango Fett, the brickfilm

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that! When something like that happens it can totally take the wind out of your sails. You seem to have a good attitude about it. A better attitude than I would have! mini/smile
