What about Mr. Vertigo has been spying on him before and therefore knew he would be perfect as a plan B if anything went wrong ?

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

I'd suggest a brick-built monster, rather than a minifig for the beast. I think it would look better to have something bigger for Squid to fight, like the old Brave Knight VS Giant Dragon dynamic (although the beast obviously doesn't need to be a giant, and probably shouldn't for the sake of ease in animating).

Now that you've explained it in more detail, I like the original idea much more.
"Bonkers cheery wizard" is actually a very accurate description of Mr. Vertigo.  This is exactly how I imagine him too--especially the weird movements (he never does anything normally.  For example, instead of walking, he'll run, slide, teleport all over the place and pop up in different places all at once, or walk on the walls and ceilings, or just randomly float through the air.). And yeah, he's very eccentric (his personality is also quite similar to that of The Doctor, especially the Eleventh).

However, Mr. Vertigo wouldn't just randomly give any passerby a quest if it involved a lot of danger, which is a bit problematic as I imagine a bunch of relicjacks and villains would be after this object and it would involve a big fight with a beast at the end.  Still, if Squid is a seasoned adventurer, Vertigo might recognize that he's capable of fulfilling the quest.
I also really like the idea of Mr. Vertigo and Squid teaming up at the end of the film, or in another.

For now, though, we can work out a rough storyline together, then write a script.

Well, Sir Squid is the oldest adventurer in the universe.  He has quite a reputation and Mr. Vertigo would have probably heard about him someplace previously.  He's a pretty good go-to-hero when you need something done.

As for the beast, I always had a giant troll in mind.  I forgot to specify that.

OK, yeah, that's great then.  If Sir Squid is a famous adventurer, then it would make sense if Mr. Vertigo went to him.  So we've got that sorted.

Trolls are a bit common as an enemy, though.  I think perhaps a Golem or a unique villain might be more interesting.

If it is to be a Troll, though, would it be one of those ones that came in the Castle sets, or brick-built?

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

I would imagine that one of the large trolls like this one would work best, rather than a brick-built one.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

I think we should make it our mission to use as many of these monsters as possible for what they weren't intended for (e.g. using the Rancor as a rock golem).

That might be fun.

I have a tauntaun and a troll, and I'm really considering trying to get the Rancor on eBay.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

Great idea.  I always love finding creative uses for unusual bricks (which is why I have the tendency to stick my Han Solo Carbonite Bath brick somewhere in many of the sets I build for my brickfilms).

Still, while these would be easier to animate, I still would like to see more brick-build creatures in brickfilms.  The Rancor would work quite well as a Golem, I suppose, but I was originally thinking of coming up with a brick-built one.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

When I make brick-built creatures, like Ryujin,  I tend to use a lot of BIONICLE/Technic parts, and integrate them with normal bricks. I find they're then easier to animate.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

Honestly, I think the old Rock Raiders rock monsters would work better for rock golems than the Rancor. http://media.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/30305c01.1115418189.jpg

And about that villain I was talking about....

Unnamed Villain
Nofig really knows where this despicable minifigure came from, but he never seems to go away without coming back. This particular villain suffers from OCD (Obsessive-compulsive Disorder), so he tries to make his plans perfect. Unfortunately for him, usually his plans can be predicted due to their uniformity and repetition. This is caused by his obsession to the number 3 (especially 3 sets of 3), and other certain aspects that normally show up in his plans (not quite sure what these should be yet).

There is room for improvement, and I'm open to any suggestions and what-not. mini/wink

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

If only there was a three-armed minifig torso...

And let's not dwell on the golem think. That was literally just the first thing that popped into my head, it wasn't supposed to be something we actually use. I needed an example. Let's not be led astray by randomnicity.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

As far as I know those Rock Raider monsters have no points of articulation anywhere and are just one big lump of plastic, so it would probably be impossible to animate it convincingly.  I don't own one anyway, though, so I personally couldn't try animate one even if I wanted to.

That's an interesting villain idea, too; it reminds me a  bit of The Riddler from Batman.  Do you know what he/she/it would look like?  Maybe it could have an extra mechanical arm, or be three-headed... just a really weird random idea.

Anyway, I agree we should probably not get too distracted by talking about Golems and whatnot--though one can often get some good ideas by occasionally going off on a tangent and having random conversations.

I'll see if I can take a stab at making a brick-built Golem or Troll (depending on whether I find the time, with Skewl starting again and all).

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

Funny you should mention that, yesterday I started considering his having two heads. Other than that, nothing really popped into my head for a minifig design. I'll see if I can get a sort of general idea, though.

And I apologize about continuing the golems conversation, I probably wouldn't have posted had Flying not ninja'd me. mini/tongue

a) This sounds great.

b) Go to the Gallery section. This is all very similar to how I originally imagined the BFCU. Just saw it five minutes ago and thought I'd share it. hope y'all enjoy it!

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

This is a really great idea. But, I got two ideas for time travel. One is we have a Doctor Who style character since most of us are Doctor Who fans. For number two is that we have character like the Lutece Twins from Bioshock Infinite who discover a way to open tear though different universes.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

Time travel, while fun and cool, would unnecessarily complicate things.
I guess it could work if it were kept in it's own separate timestream, but trying to keep all that straight would be a nightmare.

I may try to slip my Captain Obvious/Ax universe into this, but that's all I got.
No cool characters, wizards or monsters I'm afraid.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

I think time is a no-no. We especially don't want to start trying to be Doctor Who or Bioshock - we have to find our own story, and I don't think that includes time-travel.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

No, we can use the idea of tear from Bioshock, also I understand time travel is kind of overuse.
I know, we trying come with something new, but it would be fine to use some idea from books, movies, and video games.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

The idea of a tear doesn't just come from Bioshock. Read Interworld by Neil Gaiman, watch Series 5 of Doctor Who, etc. The idea's been around for ages. I'm saying we shouldn't use something because it was good for someone else, or because we want to be like them. We need to make our own stories because they're our stories.

Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal

I understand, I seen Series 5 before I play Bioshock.

I kind of agree that the rancor would be better to use as a rock monster, then the rock monsters from Rock Raider or Power  Miner.
