Re: BrickFilm Cinematic Universe proposal
We're getting off topic, man. That was just a random example.
Sorry.

I don't see why time travel should be a big taboo. If this thing is largely meant to run itself, with the individual brickfilmers making the crossovers, couldn't they come up with storylines involving time travel that work? Of course, it would have to be well planned, and make sure it doesn't get overcomplicated, but I don't see why it shouldn't necessarily not work.
That's not what I meant. No offense to Wmallenpeterson, but it was the context that I'm against - using a plot device because we saw it elsewhere, or because someone we like used it in a movie or game we like. I'm not against time-travel at all. I even suggested it in the first post, and would love to make one once I've done a few Greek myth videos; bring my Warrior Amazon to the present to fight a modern enemy.
No, no, that's not what I meant either. I wouldn't want to use something just because I'd seen it somewhere else either (though of course I love being inspired by different TV shows, creations, etc.). It's also why I would prefer it if the BFCU was focused on our own themes and creations, rather than relying on official LEGO themes (though I would have nothing against official themes if people can make good films based off them). What I meant is that many people, like Squid, seemed against the idea of incorporating time travel. But as long as we use it sparingly, write clever stories that have minimal plot-holes, and above all avoid using it as a Deus ex Machina/cure-all to solve our plots, I don't see why we couldn't incorporate it somehow.
Also, regarding superheroes--if this is meant to a universe in which every theme exists side-by-side, then I don't see why we shouldn't include one or two here or there. Of course, they wouldn't be the main focus, but I have a do have a bunch of superhero characters that could it quite well in this universe.

Yes, it's just that we don't want to be overrun by them, especially if they're overpowered like Superman or Hulk. While they're awesome (and Man of Steel is probably my all-time favourite movie), they're difficult to write properly - they don't allow for very interesting plotlines unless you're prepared to abandon most superhero fiction conventions. Again, I don't have a problem with including them at all, but I think literally one or two here or there. They can evolve into the dreaded, unwanted solve-alls very quickly.

Here an idea if superheros exist in this universe. Then should not be really respect for there power because of how much damage was done by fighting. Even though it for a good thing, a lot of people don't want to pay tax to repair a town(or city).
We were talking about brightly coloured villains the other day, and I posted a villain in the character collection thread. Let me know what you think, if you feel thus inclined.
Also, I'm thinking of posting some general rules about magic and outline the basic characteristics of Wizards--though these would be specific to "my" universe rather than to the BFCU as a whole. Should I go ahead and post them? (It's just that I feel like I'm the only person posting stuff in the character collection thread, and nobody else has really responded, so I have no idea whether anyone would be interested, or if everyone is just bored of me...)

Post them, and we'll have a look! I do keep meaning to start posting stuff, but I've been busy settling back into college work. Don't worry, you won't be the only one for long. King Skelley is going to have his day soon...as is my first version of Blot.
EDIT: Sorry, wrong forum.
We haven't decided on voice actors yet, although I guess a character will have the same voice actor for every brickfilm they're in.
On the note of voice actors, do you think I'd make a good Vertigo?
I have a good voice in mind.
Any examples in your brickfilms? I mean, I know you're a good VO, but any specific characters you can reference?
I've always imagined Mr. Vertigo to have a very squeaky high-pitched voice which is actually quite similar to Jahk from Pirates Rule! so I think you'd be perfect, Squid. My own voice is pretty low, so I don't know if I could do it myself (having said that, I haven't actually tried it yet, so I'm not entirely sure, either).
Also, if you need any voice actors for any of your brickfilms I'd love to help out. As I said before, my voice is deep, plus I can do a variety of accents. Though I do need to get a new mic as my old one broke, but I should be able to get one soon enough.

Stage 2: Story Planning has begun! http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/to ry-thread/
Please head over and give it a read, peeps!
The more and more I think about it, the less and less likely I think I'll be able to make a film for the cinematic universe.
I've just so many different films which I want to make, and every time I stop to do anything else it pushes back these other big projects I really want to see done. The problem with having such a rampant imagination is that so many of you ideas can't be made fast enough for brickfilming.
I'm still not even halfway done with my Batman film, and then I have all of these other projects like my secret project, Vampire Cinema, The Absorbent Old Man/An Adventure in Bogeyland, Archie: Time Warrior, and another completely separate secret project. And all of these could take several months or even a year each.
Okay, totally understood. I mean, really understood. I suffer from the same problem a lot.
We'd still appreciate any tidbits of your creative juice that you might be able to contribute (like any character or plot ideas), but it's understand if you don't want to.

Oh, of course! I am quite full of those.
So, somebody bumped the other BFCU thread, and I figured it would be fine to do so to this one.
What about Sharing Music?
Let's just say that a character appears in two different films, now, how cool would it being hearing his 'theme' played in both shorts? Now, obviously the creator of the character would need to talk with the composer about it, and I don't know how many of these shorts would actually have custom scores, but just think about it.
One of the few things that annoyed me about the MCU was all the different composers, and the little to no repeating of musical motifs, even between sequels. I don't know how practical it would be, but how hard would it be to simply upload the themes to Dropbox or something so others could use them?
That being said, they don't have to be custom score tracks. We all know what music is connected with Loic's 'Lesisure' series, and 'Fluffing the Duck' Captain Obvious' theme of sorts in my films, yet both are pre-recorded music tracks. So if a character is tied to a motif, perhaps we could make an effort of trying to re-use that as opportunity arises.
