OK, the issues should be fixed now if you clear your cache.

Normally I would appreciate users reporting bugs, but if I'm in the middle of fixing something it'd be cool if you guys could just hold off for a few minutes before reporting problems like these.  This entire series of adjustments took about 15-20 minutes tops.  A lot of this stuff is set up such that it's really difficult to get it all online at once so there are likely to be some intermediate moments when not everything is going to display just right.  I suppose the proper thing to do would be to shut down the site when I'm performing maintenance like this but I didn't want to have to do that.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

I really don't like that logo, it's just so bland and boring. It also looks like something you would see in a jail. I preferred the old one a lot.

I'm sorry, what?!  Seriously?!

Guys, the "bland" and "boring" argument is absolutely ridiculous.  I'm going to throw some logos here.  Tell me, are these ridiculously recognizable and successful logos "bland" and "boring?"

These are all LESS complicated than the new header logo.

Honestly, people.  Your argument is absurd.  The old logo was cluttered, chaotic, and didn't represent what the site was about.  The first draft of this logo was leagues better than this new version that's been mocked up for you.  The arrow is unnecessary, but it's in there to satisfy your jollies.  Logos don't need to be big and flashy.  If anything, they should be simple and easier to remember.  That's what makes a logo great; the ability for people to recreate it in their head without reference.

Test yourself.  Really think.  What does the Cingular logo look like?  Try to draw it without reference.  You know exactly how it looks.

Now, think about the Starbucks logo.  Try to draw that.  You will mess up, guaranteed.  It's a complicated, elaborate, difficult-to-read logo.

If you were to ask me to tell you what the Brickfilms.com logo looks like, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you.  I've been a member of that community (and now this one) for 6 years, and I'd have to go to the site to check it out.  The old logo, while familiar after prolonged exposure, is complicated and hectic at first, which a logo should never be.

I LOVE the new look.  Folks, just because you're used to cluttered, complicated logos at the headers of our brickfilming sites doesn't mean that's what's right.

Listen to Dave, for he is wise.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

I agree with Dave here, this is something I brought up in the discussion for the new logo too using the CNN example.  CNN's logo isn't empty, and adding a television at the top wouldn't make it better.  Granted we're not going for the sobering, corporate look of CNN but it's still generally good to keep a logo simple and easily recognizable.  The purpose of a logo isn't to be a piece of eye candy for every page, it is to easily identify the site in a way that reflects its content and style.

That having been said, I'm open to trying to incorporate some color into this to make it "pop" a little more.  I'm not sure it looks better with more colors, though.

And yeah, the button shading issue should be fixed in every browser now, delete your cache if the problem is persisting.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

It's much better now that it's silver instead of orange. Are you going to change the little tab logo?

Making the header the original height would fix the problems on the Events page as well as because more people are used to it being a bit bigger.

We'll be working on the events page.  There's a reason that we shortened it though -- there's no need for so much space up top with the new logo.

And yes, we're going to change the favicon.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

I like the old one more, but I understand why it had to be removed and I don't really mind this one. Getting rid of the swoosh entirely would make it much, much better, and I like the old navigation bar more as well. The weird dark squares around the words make it look bad (unless its some sort of glitch).

Heh, right. Thanks.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

I preferred the old logo. The new one is so plain. Brickfilming is about creativity, and the logo should be creative too.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

It is starting to grow on me... slightly... but eh, whatever. I think it was just the shock of something new.

The buttons don't seem to look right in Chrome (yes I deleted my cache, I'm not that delightful). It doesn't bother me at all, so if I'm the only one using chrome, it doesn't have to be worked on.

Re: Header & Logo Redesign

I'm in Seattle now so I only have linux and Firefox, but if it is not working on Chrome when I get back I will fix it.
