I don't really like the new logo, it just doesn't feel...right.
I like the logo. It fits it's purpose - The name of the site, with a little bit of style.
woah woah woah woah, what? when I go to the homepage link, the old logo is there, and then when I go to the forums, it's still there, but when I go to a thread, it changes?

Honestly I hate the new logo. Its just so... plain and unappealing to the eye . at least the other one had a little personality with the different colored lego figs.
Yup, this is really more of a cache issue than a cookie issue, my apologies.
Regarding the new logo:
The old logo was cool and had a lot going on. This made it interesting though IMO it also made it a little too busy. I liked the use of color in it though and it wasn't a bad logo. The main reason we replaced it was because the use of what were very clearly LEGO minifigures was problematic from a trademark standpoint, especially for the official website logo. (LEGO has proven to be protective of the use of the image of their minifigures with other people in the past, so we want to try to avoid this becoming a larger issue.) In addition to this the old logo is difficult to read and quickly becomes impossible to read if the resolution gets any smaller. So we wanted to go for something cleaner and more easy to read, and also try to include the filmmaking aspect of this site in its logo. I did not make these changes without getting some feedback first, there was involved discussion with the staff and beta testing team to reach this point. I didn't go ahead with it until everybody in the discussion was happy with it.
I'm sure that, like any change, this will be an adjustment for some members (take Facebook for example, it seems whenever they go through a redesign about 95% of the membership hates it for about a month afterward) but we wanted to get a new design in place as quickly as we could once it was agreed upon in order to make the transition go as easily as possible. That having been said, we do want to be receptive to you guys and we're always open to suggestions for ways this site could be improved.

I dislike it. Quite a bit actually. I would have liked some discussion before you went and changed it. I also don't see why we don't want Mini-figs in our logo, but we want
Again, Sprinkles, minifigures are trademarked by the LEGO Company, and they are very protective of their copyrights. The original logo BROKE THE LAW. We wanted to avoid a confrontation, and ideally we want to be on good terms with the LEGO Company. Note that the generic "plastic brick" image is not trademarked, which is why we can used it.
As for public discussion: please remember that this site is not a democracy. It could be considered an oligarchy. While we do value the opinions of all members, we feel that leaving every site decision up to public debate just results in needless arguing and time-wasting.

Aha,] sounds] interesting...]
Hmm... Not bad. I prefer the old one, although I do see where you are coming from trademark wise.
The 'swoosh' is a bit much though, I think.
Also, I'll knock up a new logo for the FSL at some point, so it blends in.

The beta testing team consists of many of the long-time members here, (I realize there are some good people who have been excluded; the original selection was heavily biased toward people who have made a substantial number of good films in the past because most of the discussion there regards the directory) and we did discuss this new logo at length. There was a unanimous consensus that the logo needed to be changed due to the copyright issue, and we tossed around a lot of ideas. This doesn't mean we're not open to suggestions, of course, and we may continue to revise the logo somewhat as time goes on.
Why did I not make this a completely public discussion? Nathan is right that this would have slowed it down (imagine if we tried to get the community's input on every aspect of, for example, the film directory) but honestly I don't think this approach has served us well in the past, either. When discussion of a new title for the site was brought up, a minority of us pointed out that "Brickfilmers.com" was a liability, but because the majority wanted it, it won. The minority was right, and it ended up in an extra legal mess with Brickfilms. On another occasion, Schlaeps asked the community if they wanted IE compatibility on BiM. Again, a small minority of us insisted that this is important because it is the most used browser, but the majority of the community said they didn't care because they use FireFox. Now we're having to deal with frequent complaints about the site not working properly in IE because more than 20% of our members use IE. This community is too large to publicly discuss every design decision for the site, but we'll do our best to at least be receptive.
