Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I always like to script ahead.  I have been finding time to squeeze in writing the script for Episode 5.  Episode 6 will conclude the "first" season.  If I decide to go beyond six episodes, Episode 7 will be known as "season 2" and take place in the next year, 2010.

I'm getting ahead of myself.  Episode 5 is 3/4 written.  In about a month animation for episode 3 will begin.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I do the same thing with Joe Brickmond. I like to try to write down ideas and basic plots for future episodes while I'm making the current episode, so as to keep the flow going.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I actually have had these a lot of ideas planned for a while, and it does help!  It's harder when the eps are so long, though.  I know you probably get 3 JBs done in the time I do 1 of mine.  Good news for me since I love yr series.

By the by, except for one page or so of the script where I still need to do research (a lot of research goes into the series), ep 5 is completely scripted.  43 days until filming on ep 3 begins.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I just put together 30 new laughs for the laugh track.  I'm trying to get an "Oooooh!" as well.  I know of one season 7 Everybody Loves Raymond episode and one season 5 Big Bang Theory episode that have such audience reactions.  I'm going to try to isolate and add them to my library of 300+ laughs.  I wish to have more applause without laughing.  I only have one, and I wish to have more variety.  I know that episodes of "All In the Family" end with a joke that becomes applause, but what I'm looking for is straight-up applause.  If anyone reading this knows a good source from an actual sit-com, please give a shout out.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Did another 30 laughs and one Woo.  So I have 60 new laughs to use in episode 3 so far.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I made 36 more laughs and a woo for my soundtrack.  So I have 96 new laughs in total, which will be mixed into episode 3 along with some of the original laughs for 1 and 2.  My library contains 450+ laughs all together.

Animation begins in about two weeks.  I need to build some battlefield sets for episode 3, where the space aliens will be fighting the army.

Whoa that got me really excited mini/bigsmile

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I'm guessing that's probably for something on the TV screen? Am I right? Or is it a video game?

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I've also completed processing the audio for spin-off episode 1 yesterday.  The photography is also completed, and now I'm just putting the frames in sequence.  The spin-off actually introduces a new character, Steven, who is one of Brent's co-workers.  Steven was originally planned to make his debut in episode 5 of the regular series, but he'll be seen in the spin-off first.  By the way, the ep 5 script is newly-completed.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Well, animation is beginning.  Meanwhile, I have nearly-completed sets for the police station and grocery store sets.  I also began with scenery for St. Hilarius church, though the actual structure itself is far from complete.  The Schneider family goes to church on Sundays.  Last weekend I built a bridge and some bombed buildings for the WWII footage.  The only set I didn't start on is the Acme market.  Strangely, I lost the .lxf files for the church and Acme, and had to reconstruct them.  I redesigned the church in under an hour, and I am sure I have a rough draft of the Acme somewhere.  In time, I'll have some photos of what I built up on my tumblr page.

Meanwhile, I built minifigures for the priest, the organist, and the police station secretary.

Most of St. Hilarius church is built.  I'm impressed.  I'm still debating on how to handle lighting in relation to the stained glass windows.

Episode 3 animation is underway.  I'm doing post-production of each cut almost immediately afterwards.

Still animating.  I learned something that may help me reduce the flicker.  Totally new technique.  I'll write about it when I have time in case anyone else has a Sony that's limited on manual photo features.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

While animation is not happening as fast as I hoped, I did make an impressive bridge set and a building, both that will be used in about 5 or 6 seconds each.  In the meantime, I've been recording a few songs for future episodes.  Episode 4 will have 3 original songs that I wrote, not including the opening and closing themes.  I recorded some early vocals on one of the songs last night.  I think I stumbled into the right notes and created the catchiest song ever written.  It's like, stuck in my head right now!  What the heck!  Stop!!!!!!!  I also wrote a song for episode 6 and recorded vocals last weekend.  It was really tough because it was sung by Brent, and his voice is tough for me to sing to.  Anyway, I will resume animation tomorrow.

In the meantime, chk my tumblr page (below) for some new pics of the police station set.  Pictures of the more completed station will come soon.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Bad news... a flash drive crash erased a lot of images, some script ideas, and some pms that had some ideas I had as well as voice work from others and pictures I was going to post to tumblr.  I'll be spending the week recovering the files.  Not only that, the entire history of lxf files was lost and I'm recovering as many as possible.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I just got the audio from Anna Hostert, a non-BiM user who is voicing Ann Coulter in episode 3.  Her audition file was awesome and she really took on the role.  Anna will be playing a different, semi-rugular character as the series progresses.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I completed the Chancellery building for the Hitler sequence.  It looks pretty close to the real building.  I just posted three virtual images and three photos of the building, which is currently the first thing seen on my tumblr page:

And a direct link to the specific post is here:

I had to re-record a lot of Brent Schneider lines because the microphone friction picked up.  I'll be portraying three other characters, Bill Maher, Cellmate, and TV announcer voice(s).  A non-BiM member, Anna Hostert, is portraying Bill Maher's debate partner, Ann Coulter, and she sounds a whole lot like her.  I sent an email to the real Ann Coulter a while back on a whim to ask her to play herself.  I never heard back, but it would have been a ick if she did accept the role!  But sometime I gotta tell my true Neil Cavuto story.  The Ann Coulter-Bill Maher segments are actually in the background under the main storyline dialogue, and it's a shame because Anna's work is so well-done.  I'm going to offer the clean unobstructed conversation segments as bonus material on the Episode 3 DVD after the episode airs.

I sent my lines for the officer. Did you get them?

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animation is running very smoothly.  The pace that I'm working is picking up, and the animation runs so far are more lively than episodes 1 and 2.
