Well, this turned out exactly the way I thought it would, i.e. it looks horrible. I was still clinging to a faint hope that this was somehow an ugly rumour set forth into the world by some misguided person or a massively out-of-season April Fool's prank...
Seriously, that set is just... bland. There are one or two interesting building techniques, but nothing new, and certainly not anything with a "wow" factor like the Orthanc Tower or Parisian Restaurant sets. Especially since it's apparently around 2,500 pieces, which must make it the least inspiring set of that size in the history of LEGO. I suppose it's somewhat inevitable seeing as it's supposed to represent a mundane suburban home, and cartoon shows tend to have less detail and brighter blockier colours in general, but I'm not exaggerating when I saw I think I'd be able to design something like that in my sleep without even breaking a sweat (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but the point still stands). Aside from a load of spare bricks in beige (which would admittedly be useful) I see absolutely nothing appealing to me here--though then again I'm not a Simpsons fan...
As far as the minifigs go, there's no other way to say it--they just look hideous. I'd say that this is easily shaping up to be the worst LEGO theme since Galidor... and given the way LEGO's themes have been going recently, that's no easy feat.
