Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Actually, I think this LEGO Simpsons line is a good way to go. I probably won't be buying these sets myself. But, LEGO has always been geared towards kids, and with lines like Lord of the Rings and NXT Mindstorms, along with these sets here, there are going to be more and more LEGO geared towards grownups in the near future.

Good job, LEGO. You're finally doing something right.

At least they can use the yellow heads.  I don't know why hey didn't do this back when people cared about SImpsons, but those were the early days of Lego IP licensing.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Well, this turned out exactly the way I thought it would, i.e. it looks horrible.  I was still clinging to a faint hope that this was somehow an ugly rumour set forth into the world by some misguided person or a massively out-of-season April Fool's prank...

Seriously, that set is just... bland.  There are one or two interesting building techniques, but nothing new, and certainly not anything with a "wow" factor like the Orthanc Tower or Parisian Restaurant sets.  Especially since it's apparently around 2,500 pieces, which must make it the least inspiring set of that size in the history of LEGO.  I suppose it's somewhat inevitable seeing as it's supposed to represent a mundane suburban home, and cartoon shows tend to have less detail and brighter blockier colours in general, but I'm not exaggerating when I saw I think I'd be able to design something like that in my sleep without even breaking a sweat (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but the point still stands).  Aside from a load of spare bricks in beige (which would admittedly be useful) I see absolutely nothing appealing to me here--though then again I'm not a Simpsons fan...

As far as the minifigs go, there's no other way to say it--they just look hideous.  I'd say that this is easily shaping up to be the worst LEGO theme since Galidor... and given the way LEGO's themes have been going recently, that's no easy feat.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I'm not sure that I know of a reaction image which would be sufficient to relate my disgust.  It's pretty awful.

However, this will be of little consequence as there are always more than enough sets which I do want to get, and I never have to worry much about those awful sets.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

The great thing is that you don't have to buy the sets.  But Flying Minifig, it's not a joke.  I work at a lego retail outlet.   We have confirmation of these sets.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

The minifigures are hideous and the set is bland, but I like the fact that it's a sort of doll house.

I won't buy that set, but I will get at least one collectible minifigure series figure.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I don't care for the Simpsons at all in the first place and this seems like an awfully big set for a lot of money that no one actually wants that badly.
Retail price is 200 US dollars.

An interesting thing though with the minifigures...printed sleeves!  And printed short legs!

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Ok, I don't know if the link will work but here are some more photos of the interior: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set … amp;type=1

I still think this line is a piece of crap, but the details look pretty nice for an official LEGO set...unless this is just a prototype.

I am surprised LEGO is doing this line considering the show can be pretty vulgar. I don't want to say too much because I have only seen one or two episodes, but they both had questionable content. I never expected LEGO to do something like this, and I wish thy didn't.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Pushover, I can only redirect you to the post I made at the top of the page.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

That's the final product, they aren't prototypes.  LEGO had the press release and gave those images.

They could have picked something less...yuck.

If LEGO wants to make something for adults, they don't have to make it vulgar. They could always make sets based off movies and things from their time that no kid really cares about today. Heck, what about LEGO He-man? I would buy that over LEGO Simpsons. A toy company geared towards kids should still pick lines that are (sort of) family friendly, regardless of who they are making them for.

Besides, I don't think AFOLs buy sets to play with them, they buy them for the pieces.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

It may be a dumb idea for a set, but there are an awful lot of useful pieces in there, and I definitely want Bart's torso.

I don't know about today's episodes, but I bet some of the episodes in the earlier seasons (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, etc.) aren't as naughty. I don't know if that's true or not, though; it's just a thought.

You'd be surprised. If you click on that Facebook link that Pushover posted, and just scroll through those comments, you'll see some people (mainly adults, however) who actually do want this set "that badly"...

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

After seeing the interior, I actually like the set, but not for its intended purpose.  A lot of beige, a lot of colors once reserved for the Friends series, and some neat new minifigure body parts.  A lot of regular bricks, since I still build old school.  THe fact that this is a more mature series means that my Big Bang Theory Lego idea is feasable.  (http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/31288).  Now if there was a way to get people to support it.

Bart has an ID card with his face on it, thus it is almost useless for any other purpose.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

The set has a lot of useful pieces. I like the barbecue. The car is quite nice, and I like Bart's torso. Also the house is nice and simple. The minifigures head pieces though. mini/no Wouldn't pay $200 for it though.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

It seems to me that the people on Facebook etc. who really want this set are fans of the show, and not really AFOLs.  Still, I suppose this might attract new AFOLs (though I'm not sure whether that would be good or bad).  For now I'm still traumatised by those horrifically ugly minifigs. mini/dizzy

That would be Homer you are referring to.  Bart is the boy with the red t-shirt and skateboard (I do know that much about the Simpsons...).

The printed shirt-sleeves are certainly useful, but that is probably just about the only good thing to come from this theme, in my opinion.  And they're sure to turn up in a bunch of other themes in the future, so there's probably not even any exclusivity to that.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Actually, I just remembered, we're getting a collectable minifigure series for the Simpsons.  Know what that means?  That means that there's a good chance there will be a few minifigs that have the printed sleeves without having to spend $200 or bricklink the minifigues. They're $4 instead of $3, which isn't really too bad for a licenced theme.  I just want a MARVEL Super Heroes minifigure series...

Hmm, it looks like you're right.  For the adults who love the Simpsons but don't have anything to do with LEGO it seems like it's almost a novelty item .  A $200 novelty item seems expensive though.

HoldingOurOwn wrote:

This seems like an odd license for LEGO just because it is a more mature series (but not really that bad compared to most of what's on today).  I don't believe LEGO would ever make a Big Bang Theory set because the show is basically comprised of stereotypical characters making sex-related jokes and...well, that's about it from what I've seen.  I saw like two seasons of it during a sports road trip and I was paying attention off and on but yeah, sexual humor is all it really seemed to have.  Well, and a few nerdy super hero moments.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Personally, I wouldn't want to fork out any money whatsoever for those... things. mini/twitch

From what very little I've seen of The Simpsons (which basically consists of about 5 minutes total of footage, plus the ride at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida) it does seem to be a pretty funny show, though that still doesn't mean it would fit well with LEGO.  The only LEGO theme based off a TV show that I'd really want would be Doctor Who, and possibly Sherlock.
