Topic: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Well, here's a Danish newspaper article
http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2013/03/07/065215.htm
(you'll need to translate with google or whatever) and here's the Brickset news article:
http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=5946

What do you think, will they actually go through with this?  Do you think this is an appropriate license for LEGO to acquire?

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

That is really surprising.  I would think if they did go through with this then it would only be for one set that had all the main characters.  It really doesn't fit with Legos brand though, but I guess Pirates of the Carribean, Indiania Jones, The Dark Knight Rises, and Prince of Persia really don't either.  I would much rather prefer a King of the Hill set or two instead of the Simpsons.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I've never seen a single episode of The Simpsons, so I'm not really interested in seeing any LEGO translation.

But purely on the appearance of the characters, I'd imagine they'd make miserable minifigures, it would just be awkward.
On the other hand, elements of their minifigures might be useful if you're going for yellow skin, unlike every other post-2004 licensed theme.

Most cartoons don't work well in LEGO, though, I think a Finn minifigure from Adventure Time just might.

If anyone doesn't like them if it happens, the best thing would be to not buy them.  There are plenty of other themes.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

This is going to be weird. I'm surprised they said yes because The Simpsons is not a kid show in the slightest.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I think this is a rather odd move for LEGO. I predict it will be just as awful as the Spongebob Theme... and the Avatar theme.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I kinda agree with Repelling, this is an odd move for LEGO. I'm surprise, that they didn't get a agreement with Nintendo, to make Legend of Zelda LEGO set or Cartoon Network, to make Adventure Time or How to Train Your Dragon LEGO set.

I'm also Bappy on Discord for those wondering.

the Avatar theme.

That was probally the most pointless theme ever, if two sets can really be considered a theme.  I had always thought that they would make more of those.  Anyway, Lego needs to slow down on the licensing deals and go back to the classic space, western, pirates, etc.  I really think they would be able to sell those if they marketed them right.

I think there in lies the issue.  It's a trade off between spending on market research to convince kids to buy non-license theme sets and just getting the license and let the mainstream theme sell itself.

A pirate boat set is great, but one with a Jack Sparrow minifig, OMG I want!  It's that sort of thinking.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

TO the one who never saw the simpsons, it is a once-funny cartoon that lost its charm about 15 years ago, but sits around forever on TV like People's Court or something.  I second the King of the Hill Lego instead of Simpsons.  Actually, Simpsons would make for weird lego, bbut they would be perfect for ......mnm mmnnnm . (I have trouble saying it)  Mega Bloks.

Best Simpsons review ever.

King of the hill.

The Ghost of Mrs. Day studios: Home of mediocre brickfilms.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I don't really see it as a strange move, since they have made so many sets on other famous icons. It just seems odd that it is suddenly announced out of nowhere. Maybe at the time of the Simpson Movie, but now?

Anyway, the characters would probably look rather boring, considering that they are kinda Legoish already. I mean, for a start they are yellow...

Anyway, no comments on the actual set until it is released, but overall an odd move for LEGO.

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I remember the awful "The Critic" crossover episode of the Simpsons.  Now the Critic on his own show was flesh-colored, but in the Simpsons version he was yellow.

LEGO rarely ever releases a theme unless it has some special thing happening with said theme.
With lord of the rings for instance, they made sets because the Hobbit was coming out soon. A similar thing was done with Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Star Wars.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

I hope they don't go for this. There is alot of other themes that is much more interesting that a Lego The Simpsons.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

It's not just a rumor; it's confirmed by the Lego group... we and all Lego retailers just received msg from them that there will be Lego simpsons in 2014.

Re: Will LEGO really license the Simpsons?

Hmm. Very interesting. I like the house design quite a bit, though I'm not too keen on the minifigures as a whole.

The barbecue piece looks great as well mini/wink
