Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Well, your wiki needs some work. You need to write more in the articles than just what are the subforums and section of BiM, or saying that The Magic Portal it's the first brickfilm (and it isn't, there is one that was finished about 4 years earlier) and no more. Writing about the plot or the production would be fine, for example, or about the cult status it gained, I don't know. It's just that it feels empty.

I agree, it does need work, but then again I only started it 5 days ago. You shouldn't expect a wiki to be near completion in less than a week.

There was a brickfilm before The Magic Portal? What was it called?

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I don't remember the name exactly, but I remember I saw something that was completed like in 1985, I think it was more like a test and the animation was terrible, but it does count as brickfilm I guess. Maybe I shouldn't have even mentioned it, but oh well. If you want I can search for it (edit: here, I found it, I remember I searched for the guys after watching Taco Trouble).
And sorry, I didn't see it was just one week, I though you spent more time on it. I'd like to help, but I'm afraid to add anything to it because I can't be sure about my writing skills in english.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I believe the LEGO Sport Champions films were released in 1987. If that's true, they would have beaten out The Magic Portal.

EDIT: Actually, I'm going to have to look into this further. Someone on Youtube is claiming they were made in the 90s, which seems very unlikely... but I guess you never know. http://www.filmwest.com/Catalogue/itemdetail/2395/ <- This page seems to confirm my original estimate.

They're actually pretty neat.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I'll have to update the history. Thanks guys.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I believe the Magic Portal started production first.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I just added a Lighting section in Tips and Tricks. This is just information I gathered around BiM, you can edit it if need be. mini/smile

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

I believe I read about a brickfilm series that was on TV in the early 80's about the LEGO theme Fabuland.

Looks like another 1987 series. I guess it ultimately boils down to what part of the production process we want to consider as the point of inception. Unfortunately, I think it's unlikely we'll ever know when production began on these official LEGO shorts. Not that it really matters in the end... just interesting to know.

Here you go!. Though is it just me, or do the characters appear to be made out of clay, but in the shape of the characters they were based on?

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Yeah, they're made out of clay.

The Wikipedia page says that the TV series aired from 1979 to 1989. The first brickfilm? *x-files music*

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Nope, that's CLAYMATION, not brickfilming. Big difference. mini/wink

So it looks like those sports videos were the first brickfilms, and then Magic Portal was the first privately made one, as well as the first to use minifigures. Am I right?

EDIT: Sorry, it appears that the aformentioned LegoMation one was the first privately made, and minifigure utilizing one.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Still, Lego in the background.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

The Edward and Friends show was done from 1987-1989, but the theme which it was based on, Fabuland, lasted from 1979-1989. And though they were claymation, if you notice lots of the things are either actual Lego, or clay with "studs." I'd count that as both claymation and a brickfilm. mini/tongue

Wow, all this brickfilming history stuff is so cool! mini/delirium

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Put it this way: We'll never get a wiki as successful as wookieepedia, but I do know a thing or 2 about editing those wikis, so I'm in to apply for an admin role if we decide to work on a brickfilmers wiki. I forgot my old account though, so I'll need to create a new one if we do this project.

One suggestion I will put forward if we do this, is to select an easily recognisable word that relates directly to any serious brickfilmer, and goes with wiki, or pedia, etc. Again, example in wookieepedia.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

No need KAB Productions, I am put on hold for admin. They just want to see a bit more editing.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Let's see we got Magic Portal Made in 1985
and the other films made later.
But that LegoMation was made during the following year so which came first? mini/blankexpression

Edit: I find the wiki Very Interesting MW mini/smile

Nope, The Magic Portal started as a project in 1985, and was finished in 1989. In those four years LegoMation's first movie, Edward and Friends and Lego Sports Champions were made. I guess the first completed brickfilm is Legomation's. That's what we know for now, with more research we might discover more films.

Re: Brickfilm Wiki

Also, to add to the long brickfilms list, the mystery of the yellow room reached 50 minutes.
