Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Does anyone here use a Canon T3i?  Mine should be coming soon, but because of Free Shipping not until January.  When I do get it how does it connect to my MacBook Pro?  Does the cable come with it?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

When you mean connect do you mean you just want to stream the video to your MBP or do you want to stream AND transfer pictures. You can stream the video by using the supplied VGA(standard definition) cable or you could buy an HDM cable to stream the video. Depending on which model of Macbook Pro you have, you might need to get 1 or 2 adapters to connect the cord to the laptop.
On the previous gen MBP(not retina lineup) you need to get an adapter(that connects to the Thunderbolt port) for the VGA and you'll need to do the same if your MBP does not already have an HDMI port.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Okay so I got my T3i, now I'm still having problems.  I'm using a USB connection is that correct?  And on iStopmotion it says there's no live preview..  Is that a problem?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

No, I don't think it is possible to get a live view with usb. You must connect the camera with hdmi or vga. Anyone correct me if I'm incorrect. I have done it before it with my T3i though, so it should work.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Does the a VGA or HDMI cable come with the T3i?  I have a few different wires here.  I've also heard that you use a firewire cable to connect to iStopmotion.  Is this correct?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

The VGA cable came with the camera. One end of the wire has a the different vga outputs (I think hey are red and yellow) and the other end is a mini usb output. The mini usb connects into the camera's usb port and the coloers connect to an adapter. The adapter simply allows for those colored outputs to the computer with usb. I have an adapter from Roxio I think.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

On iStopmotion I am getting very pissed off.  I need to capture a preview frame then I need to put the image into the timeline.  Wtf.  Honestly wtf.  Surely there's a way that I can simple take a picture and it will instantly go into my timeline.

I'm sorry but I am not sure how to use a dSLR and get the frames to download to your computer. It looks like something you'll need to investigate yourself on the internet. Hope you figure it out!

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Would it be easier just to take the pictures on the SD card then download then on the computer?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Binding Brick, I think you'll just need to use your DSLR in the very annoying PTP (take photo without live preview, upload to timeline) mode for now. I spoke to a Boinx employee on their forums ages ago about the implementation of live view support for cameras such as yours, and he hinted that it would be coming in the future. I'm not entirely sure about it coming soon though, as I posted the query nearly half a year ago. mini/sad

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

How do I set my camera to ptp mode? And what are the downsides to it?

I believe that is basically what PTP mode is.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

hey.... I've a problem with my , Aperture, on the lens I have, I put it to max, and it still wont really get it nice and clear like ANP and that, can someone help me, my lens is a sigma 28-300mm....

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Cooked Cat, part of your problem is that Sigma lenses just aren't the most crystal clear. Also, if a lens is more zoomed in it tends to be less clear, so that could be part of your problem as well; I don't know exactly how you're using the lens.

Okay, question. I was talking to a guy at one of my local photo shops about using lenses with converters. Like most of the people here I have a Canon camera, but I want some manual focus lenses for their light flicker reducing attributes. What he told me was that screw mount lenses work well with an adapter on EOS cameras, but other types of mounts and adapters are really hit and miss, and most people just get weird artisticy effects from them. The problem with screw mount lenses is they're really old and hard to find. I know some people here have used Nikon lenses on Canon cameras, so: have you consistently gotten realistic quality images and if so, what lenses and adapter did you use? mini/smile

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Does anyone recommend a Canon EOS 60D? I have been looking for a new camera for a while now.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I own one and love it. The question is, what are you planning on using it for? I can give you a lot of information, but I need some more information. mini/smile
