I'm not so sure.

I use the 18-55 kit lens for 90% of my shooting, and it hasn't failed me yet. It is a good size, has a reasonably small aperture, and the build quality is very premium.  If you were to invest in another lens, however, get the 18-135. It is an amazing all-purpose lens, and when I had it, I never took it off the camera.

I have the 60D, and bought the kit which comes with the 18-135mm lens. I have to say that the zoom range is wonderful, my only warning is that it auto-focuses very slowly, although that's the case with most lenses on that level.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Will a Canon zr200 work for stopmotion? Thats what I use right now.

The auto-focus function also depends on your camera. I've noticed with Son'ys SLT "Translucent-Mirror" focusing that I can focus a 75-300mm telephoto lens at remarkably high speeds for a beer-can lens of that size. I suppose it depends on what "fast" autofocus is for the user...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I would like to inquire if the Canon EOS 600D (T3i) has problems with light flicker with it's stock lens, the 18-55mm? We (my family) are most likely to be buying one, and I'm cautiously jumping with joy...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

It's great.
If you need a better lens, the 50mm is only $100.
I haven't gotten it yet, but I hear it's good.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Me and my brother is planning to buy a new camera, we got the Quickcam pro 9000 now, but we feel that it's not really going to be enough for our upcoming stop motion projects. Now, I don't know much about cameras but what I have read so far is that the Canon Eos 550D seems to be a good purchase for stop motion.

Which camera is the best to use for stop motion in that price range?

What kind of lenses do I need for the Canon Eos 550D?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Hello. I am getting a Canon Rebel T2i and am woundering in anyone can recoment a good (cheap) lens for brickfilming and extreme close ups.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Lots of people knock the kit lens, but it's actually really good.

Agreed.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Filmed a new short action film and uploaded it to youtube. (On my channel now.) I used my new 60d, and I LOVE it. The quality is great, and it is so much easier to use then my old mini DV camcorder. Still working on alot of the little things like remembering to check all of the settings before filming a shot, and making sure things are perfectly in focus though.

Canon Rebel T2i Bundle Great if you live in Canada and live near Costco this is so awesome!!!

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Sadly, Costco has stopped selling the T2i in the US, last I checked, which is unfortunate, because I would recommend it to just about everybody.

I have the T3i and it is practically the same. Only difference is T3i has slightly better software and a pop out screen. I got my T3i cheaper than what Chiro paid for his T2i. So I would just now recommend the T3i instead.

Yes but I got photoshop, premiere, and a tripod as well.

You would have been better off not bundling all that stuff and buying good software and a good tripod. Slightly more expensive but you get far better stuff.

Actually the tripod is REALLY good. It can reach up to 6'2. and the software isn't that bad either .

Well if you like it I guess that is all that matters

Trust me, I know the differences between the T2i and the T3i. It has come to my attention that Canon has now dropped the price of the T3i down to the same as the T2i, meaning that the T2i is on it's way out very very soon, which of course was the point of the T3i from the start. This price drop makes the T2i officially obsolete, at least as far as buying a camera new goes.
