Topic: The D-SLR Discussion

As the title implies, here we talk about the general aspects of Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras. I'm thinking about getting a 550D, but I don't know if I should go for a 600D instead. Is that that bit better?

Where are you getting the money to buy one of those?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

IF your strictly using it for stopmotion then no dont invest hundreds of bucks into a camera but if your getting into still photography then yeah go for it.
The t2i and t3i are nearly identical except for a few new hardware changes so dont waste the extra hundred bucks.
Also consider nikon they have some quality products with just as optimal quality as cannon.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Thanks for the feedback.

Funnily enough, I live near enough the country, and the parish we have gives out money to creative people in the community about once a year. And this year I am thankful to say it was me.

Stop-motion for me is a side hobby, in which I can express my filmmaking ambitions without the restrictions of finding actors, time, locations, etc. My primary use for the camera would indeed be photography, as I am quite an enthusiast.

I have done indeed, but if I were to go for Nikon it would have to be the nikon d7000, which sadly, is out of my price range. I am by no means brand-bias.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Grand actually, and their creative outlets are wonderful.

I can tell...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I don't actually have a D-SLR, but I've been looking into getting one.
Does anyone know what the most reasonably priced, video capable camera is?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

just got a 550D, they ROCK!

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

How good are they for brickfilming?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

great, only you'll have to set the camera on to a lower quality if you use Premiere(lower is still much bigger then 1920x1080) because it don't want to large pics getting imported.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I'm curious though, what does the T2i offer over the lower end Canon models, and what do the higher end models have over the T2i? What makes the T2i such a popular DSLR for brickfilming?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I agree i belive a bunch of people buy the t2i out of conformity but it does seem to be the most advertised.
Its movie mode capabilities are actually pertty good though i believe its one of the cheapest cannon models that offer 60p not that it matters for brickfilming.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Hmm, but for brickfiming, a 500D would be just as good. It also shoots in 1080p. I'm leaning to the 60D though (the swivel out screen).

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

the 550D/T2i is bought by most people for a reason - it's genuinely the best balance of performance and price for a DSLR that you need not sell your soul for. It's great for both still photography and footage. Get the 550D and spend any leftover monies on lenses.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I was thinking of buying a Canon S3 IS. It shoots in high-res, has manual controls, and does very well with natural lighting. Anything I should know?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I bought a 550D which I use for animation. However the reason I bought this was for photography and live-action filming which it is very capable of. Animation is just another bonus I can use the camera for. If you have no plans to film, or even don't care that much about photography then I would suggest you check out the cheaper models as buying this camera just for animation would seem a waist. However if you do plan on doing live-action and photography then this camera is great for all three things.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Is there a difference between the 550d and the T2i?
When I looked it up on Amazon, it said 'Canon EOS 550d (European EOS Rebel T2i)'.

Same thing, different names.
