NO. that book is absolutely terrible. if it was meant to be funny, I WOULD DISAGREE AND IT GETS NO CUPCAKES FOR IT.

BUMP

I just finished The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. It was great, probably one of my favourite books. I love Salinger's writing style.

Re: Books!

I remember liking Catcher in the Rye; I think it was the first time I had read a book with that kind of prose, and it was really new and amazing for me. Try getting into On the Road now. mini/tongue

Stuff that I recently read:

Siddhartha (Hermann Hesse)
Interesting, and really subjective in the sense that Hesse sort of takes you on a spiritual journey along with his protagonist. It felt alienating at first but really came together at the end.

Chicken with Plums (Marjane Satrapi)
The best graphic novels come from France, period. I loved the drawing and narrative style.

Holidays on Ice (David Sedaris)
Hilarious, especially the first story.

Genesis
Not very interesting, to be honest. The translation I read presented the text as a continuous narrative rather than being clearly divided into verses. I remember liking the King James version more, my professor agreed with me.

Film as Art (Rudolf Arnheim) & The Film: A Psychological Study (Hugo Münsterberg)
I'd really recommend these. Both were written at early points in cinematic development, but they forecast things to come incredibly well, it's almost uncanny.

Re: Books!

V for Vendetta (Graphic Novel)

Phenomenal piece of art. I actually liked the art style, although some friends of mine thought it was ugly. Overall, it made me a little more disappointed in the film. I mean, the film was good, but some of the core stuff from the graphic novel is so much better.

Re: Books!

I didn't like the drawing much. for the rest I like it as much as the movie.

Re: Books!

Oh yeah, V for Vendetta, one of my all time favourite comics. A bit pathetic, but it has the right spirit.

Vita Karoli Magni (Einhard)
Biography of Charlemagne from his buddy Einhard.

Legenda Aurea
About 400 years after Einhard written hagiographies full of entertainment, violence and christian propaganda. Some people still believe in this. A lot of laughing. Also I had a bilingual edition de luxe, so it was much more fun to read.

Rebel Visions. The Underground Comix Revolution 1963-1975 (Patrick Rosenkranz)
Rosenkranz is showing the history of US underground comix by the biography of about 50 artists. The book has many pictures in it(comic pages, covers, pictures of artists), a small bibliography and even an index. And of course it is full of !@#$, sex, perversion, violence, drug experiences and all the other great things young children should not see mini/bigsmile

Re: Books!

I read the latest book in the Warriors series. It was a kinda sad and confusing end, a real cliffhanger.

*BUMP*

Well, I finished A Prayer for Owen Meany(617 pages) a month ago. I thought it was amazing. I loved the story.

Do not highlight the following if you are planning to read the book: The ending scene was amazing, you knew it was coming but it still was interesting how those few pages would link together the whole book. When he died, and how he died, made the book come together and make sense. Why he knew he had those visions/dreams, why he practiced the dunk shot with people. Why he did what he did in his life, he did it for his purpose. A Prayer for Owen Meany = A Prayer for Our Meaning]

I also recently finished Once an Eagle(1291 pages), and the detail was very nice too. I like the plot of the book, and really enjoyed reading it.

I'm reading Sword in the Stone atm.
