Why is there so much hype amongst you about the Where the Wild Things Are movie? I am not the least bit excited for it.

Why is there so much hype amongst you about the Where the Wild Things Are movie? I am not the least bit excited for it.
I'm in the same boat. It just doesn't look all that interesting. Movies based off of simple children's books are never really anything special; Night At The Museum, for example. It was a funny movie, but nothing really new.
I just found out about "Nine" yesterday. Not "9," the animated movie; "Nine," the new movie musical by Rob Marshall, director of Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha. Also cool is that "Nine" stars Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz, and Judi Dench. From what I saw in the trailer, it looks absolutely beautiful in shot composition and general stage blocking. Marshall's work with lighting in Chicago is masterful and brilliant, and I'm eager to see him at work again. As for the casting, I've never heard Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz, or Judi Dench sing, but they're all great actors, and I'm eager to see if their singing voices hold up.
I saw a trailer for the new Terminator or Transformers and some guy said something along the lines of "This is not how we expected the future to be", thats probably not what he said, but he reffered to the present as the future, which is why I don't look forward to these kinds of movies.

It doesn't look interesting?!?! It looks so much more interesting than almost any other film based on a children's book. Just so different from the usual sanitized "adventuuur muvvies!" that studios churn out. The people working on it are incredibly well-regarded and seem to have a healthy independent streak, and it apparently has the blessing of Maurice Sendak as well.
Where the Wild Things Are looks fantastic; it looks like a children's film that can actually be taken seriously as a legitimately good movie (like ET or the recent work of Pixar), not just good in the sense that it will be merely entertaining for kids. Plus, the visuals look absolutely fantastic, and with a pedigree like Spike Jonze, it should be very rewarding (especially if you grew up with the book).
I saw the trailer for Nine. Definitely looks interesting, though it sort of shielded Daniel Day-Lewis' performance, IMO. I loved Chicago, and with Rob Marshall at the helm (along with a fantastic cast), it looks promising.
I also saw the trailer for Precious. It was received extraordinarily well at Cannes, and the trailer looks great. Mo'Nique's performance appears to be outstanding, and she's apparently being hailed as a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress.
Personally, I'm waiting to see a trailer for Scorsese's Shutter Island.

When I was interning at the Connecticut Film Center, that was one of the scripts I had to read through and mark location scout info for! Very good story. I'm extremely excited for that film.
I also had to read Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and College Road Trip, but I'd rather not talk about those two. Sometimes I still can't sleep because of those horrendous screenplays.

I'm not certain what you mean; I know quite a few adults who legitimately enjoy ET and Pixar films (and really, Pixar puts quite a bit into their films as far as cultural references and puns simply to gain the adult audience).
Spike Jonze didn't make this film for children.

I will say, while Night at the Museum wasn't a brilliant film, I saw it last summer at my job (camp counselor... rainy days are movie days) and I was very surprised by how fun it was. Sure, it's not really comedy gold, but there were some moments where I was genuinely entertained. I'm already planning on taking my 8 and 5 year old cousins to see the sequel this summer.

Sorry, when I said that, I was putting Pixar and ET in the group of movies that are legitimately good, not the ones that are merely entertaining to kids. Re-edited my original post to avoid further confusion.
Although WTWTA may not be aimed at children as Jonathan pointed out, I expect a lot of parents will likely take their kids to see it since it's such a beloved children's story.
