Topic: Mailday

It has finally arrived!(actually I didn't expect it to be done until tomarrow. mini/bigsmile)

youtube

It is based on Zeno's Paradox, stating that before you can get from point A to point B, you must get halfway there, and before you can get halfway, you must get halfway to halfway ect. I wanted to make it longer, but SMP was acting up, so I just used the footage I had. I like how it turned out.

Re: Mailday

I didn't really get it.

Re: Mailday

It dosn't make sense... even if you read the paradox. it's hard to tell thats what you based it off of.

Re: Mailday

Seeing how I understand it so perfectly, I don't know what you mean.

Re: Mailday

I understand the paradox but the animation dosn't tell the same story. I think you need dialog to do it justice.

Re: Mailday

As the rest of them, I didn't get it at all. A guy goes to get his mail and he can't?
Anyways, the animation wasn't that bad, there was an obvious use of looping, and I think the white balance was off, I have this problem as well and I'm still battling it. The music was a little quiet, but I guess it fit. Nice sets.
Good Job,

I've got nothing.

Re: Mailday

Let me break it down.

Spoiler (click to read)

He wants to get to the mailbox. He tries to walk there, but ends up in the same place every time. This follows the paradox perfectly.

Re: Mailday

Took me a while to understand it. The sound was all a bit quiet, really, and there were way too many credits. Animation wasn't bad, though.

Re: Mailday

I under stand the consept only after reading the paradox. I watched it  first and it made no sense

Re: Mailday

I'm not sure why people are having trouble understanding it, it definitely made sense to me.

Anyway, I thought you did a good job of pulling off a tricky concept using camera work.

Re: Mailday

I understand it. I just didn't find that it was executed well. Honestly, when looking at that, I think he is just going through a portal. An explanation would be nice, or perhaps he moves half a stud, then a quarter stud, and so forth (but that would be quite tricky to do). Okay animation and such, but the story lacked quite a bit.

Re: Mailday

I had to watch it two times to get it. You could have at least put the minifig on some invisible rig so it appears he's walking, but the mailbox isn't getting any closer.
You could tell that the bird sound effect was used over and over again, and sometimes even a little stop in between them. A suggest using some more sound effects; that or put some music in it. mini/smile
The animation was good. I liked how the mail man blended in with the inhabitants of the city. Overall it was a pretty good short film. This was like your 3rd film right? If so, you have plenty of time to improve. mini/wink

Re: Mailday

@LMP~This is my 4th real film. I made quite a few before this that were pretty...er...awful.

Re: Mailday

I understood it but the looped footage at the end annoyed me, I do know you had problems with SMP. You could have used some angles that make it look like he's moving forward but he's not.

Re: Mailday

Good:
-Nice uses of the Market street set
-Adverage animation
-Ok sound
-Good use of Windows Movie Maker (the editing was probally the best you can get out of that programe)

Bad:
-Plot was Ok, but I had to read the thread first before understanding it. I DID understand it though
-Its probally not your fault, but I didnt really like the looped footage either

WTF:
N/A (Well done)

Overall: 5/10 (but only really good movies get higher than 5/10)

Re: Mailday

I had to loop it because SMP kept freezing up, so there was no way I could film more. I was goig to have him throw a fit, and in his frustration not even realize that he was at the mailbox. He gets the mail, and begins to walk back to the house. Then he can't get to the house...

@Max~I think it was the Cafe Corner and the Green Grocer, not market street.  mini/mrgreen

Re: Mailday

I understood it after second viewing. The animation was good, but the looped footage at the end was a little dull and distracting.
