Re: YouTube

Has anyone else had immense problems with Youtube uploading lately? Tried to upload a video yesterday, which was just a little audio file, which normally takes around 2 to 3 minutes. Yesterday, it took 3 hours, then got stuck at 97% uploaded. I was a bit annoyed by it and was just wondering if anyone else has been having these problems. I feel like every week there's some new issue with Youtube that it takes a few days to fix.

Also, congratulations on the million views, jampot. mini/smile

I can't remember who, but someone else said there upload speed was slow too. What browser do you use? I uploaded something to the MBU channel the day before yesterday and it was fine, though it was only a 30 second, 50-something MB video. I'll see if I can remember who else was having trouble and point them in your direction.

And thanks mini/smile

Re: YouTube

It *could* have something to do with the fact that I was using Internet Explorer. Got a new computer recently and have been too lazy to download Firefox or Chrome. Perhaps I'll do that at some point then try again.

Re: YouTube

My THACumentary  was blocked in Germany because of copyrighted music... I'm probably get a terrible reputation with YouTube. I keep getting copyright claims and stuff. From now on I guess I'll just use Royalty free tracks.

I do not brickfilm anymore, but you can see my live action stuff here.

Re: YouTube

That's the way to go. I stopped using copyrighted music a long time ago; it's just better practice, especially if at some point you want to enter festivals or monetize your work.

Re: YouTube

Yeah, a lot of my old films are  banned in both Germany and France. The thing is, sometimes you can use copyrighted content without any complications, but it is almost impossible to know whether or not the piece of music you use will be okay. I think a lot of the problems with copyrighted content on youtube videos is how strict the owner is about the use of their music. Also, if the owner dies and the rights are inherited to someone else, that too can cause complications. Anyway, I do generally avoid using copyright content now, however, although royalty free music is really good, you'll find that several Brickfilmers will use the same pieces of music over and over again to the point where you think, "oh no, not this again!" For this reason, I am considering getting a member of BIM to compose music for me, that might be my next move.

Re: YouTube

Using copyrighted music is definitely not a good thing to do. It's good that you're making that leap, Smocktopus.

To be perfectly honest, "getting a composer" isn't just as simple as that. Composing music is really hard work (and people that do it for free can get burned out quickly, not wanting to compose for anyone anymore), and not every film needs an original composition.

Re: YouTube

Making the leap to not using copyrighted content in my films, especially music, was difficult, but I'm very glad I started doing it in high school; it definitely gave me a leg up in college, where most kids couldn't make anything that was safe to submit to a festival since they were reliant on violating copyrights for their films.

Re: YouTube

A while back, I made a thread in the audio forum for finding royalty free music and sounds. Along with the sites for getting precomposed soundtracks and music, I also have contact information for various on-site composers. Feel free to look there for your needs. And let me know if you find anything not on the list worth looking at.

Re: YouTube

Normally I use Royalty free stuff but I tried some Beethoven and that's how it got banned.

Re: YouTube

Really? Beethoven? I would have thought that anything like that would not have any copyright issues.

Re: YouTube

Certain copyrights on classical music are maintained, but many others are not. That is why musopen.org is a good place to find royalty-free classical music.

Re: YouTube

I think that with classical music, it's the performance of it that is copyrighted, not the musical piece itself.

Re: YouTube

The thing about classical music is that even if the piece itself isn't protected, that doesn't necessarily mean you're free to use a specific performance of it. You always have to check what license the recording was released under.

Edit: Greenshirt beat me to it mini/wink

Re: YouTube

Also, since one performance sounds pretty much like another, youtube has a bad habit of confusing royalty free recordings with copyrighted versions and flagging videos anyway.

I've tried to use Musopen before, but it seems like you need to pay for membership in order to properly use it.

Only to get HD downloads of songs. Though, I'm not really sure how much of a difference it would make, because most of the recordings are old and some poor quality, so HD wouldn't help them sound better. Though, there are exceptions of course.

Re: YouTube

I got to a limit and I can't download anymore music.  There are also ads with music that play when you're trying to check the music out.

I would really like to find a better place for getting classical music, because I do need some for Darkmoor.
